Hi Pauline,
I saw on one of your threads that you'd like to see White-faced Darters, I know of a site for them up here where you can park about 30 metres from the pond. Mid to late June is the best time, I also know a site for Northern Emerald.
I didn't get out today, still feeling a bit rough and it was snowing. We booked the cottage that you recommended on Uist, it's the last week in May that we're going, so I'll be grateful for any info on where to go.
Regards, Audrey.

Hi Audry - I keep trying to be on here - I can't manage without my fix! ~Sorry to hear about the cold - but delighted to hear about the proposed Uist visit - send me a pm or better still an email and tell me where and when - or have you got in the same cottage as me but at a different time? Do tell I'm all agog!! Hope the 'ermine' appears for you! Now lets see if I can send this and get back on to read and comment elsewhere or whether I stomp off to bed in high dudgeon!!!!

Hi Pauline,
I'm getting over a head cold, but apart from that we are both well, hope you two are as well. We've had over two feet of snow, but it has compressed quite a bit since a warmer spell on Sunday. Most of the main roads are passable with care, but same as last winter, nowhere to park.
We had a couple of Bramblings in the garden today, but I didn't get any pics, my constant sneezing would have scared them of, and the light was very flat.
I'm hoping to get out on Saturday and have a look for a group of Lesser Redpolls that often feed in the local woods in winter, and I once saw a Stoat in ermine up there so might be lucky.
I'm really looking forward to my holiday on Uist next year, the cottage is booked, I've just got to book the ferry once the 2011 timetable comes out.
Hope you sort out your gremlins, nasty little blighters.
Regards, Audrey

How are you doing Audry? I was thinking of you earlier when I donned my Yaktrax to go shopping in Wigan (a thin nasty crust of tamped down ice is all we have at the mo but its coming for us they say) I've watched the weather earlier and reports on minus temps and views up the main street in Aviemore ........... I know in some ways you are used to having snow - well 'up the hill' but perhaps not in the street and at lower levels and certainly not this early in the season! Hope you are both well and keeping warm. Pauline xx

Oh dear ..... I'm thinking about you and hoping it goes away SOON! Its turned really vile here too - extreme gales and rain - sleety first thing - horrible. Its my mams 80th birthday today so Ian and I have 'constructed' a nice meal and I've had a clean up, bought flowers (she can take home with her in a fancy new vase) got her a couple of novels and I'm just about wilting from being up and not stopping since 5am .......... Do take care - esp Bob driving that bus ...... xx

We're forecast 40cm tonight and 20cm tomorrow "Over the hills", just like last time! It's been snowing all day, but very wet stuff which isn't lying too much on the roads......yet. We actually saw 2 lots of 2 Swallows a week ago last Sunday, one pair at Boat of Garten, the other pair at Avielochan. I hope they headed back south PDQ. Love your Pine Marten and Crestie photos, Bob says "Hi", he loved them as well.

Been watching the news and seeing the amount of snowfall around Perthshire - again .... goodness I feel for you - what a year this is turning out to be ....... At teatime today while picking mam up there was suddenly a large flock - three dozen - maybe more house martin and at least one swallow flying over the backs and the river bank probably right in front of a nasty storm ..... they soon moved on but you wonder what they are finding to eat and how cold it must feel after Africa .......... I hope they stopp short before coming on towards the Cairngorms or they will be in for a shock! Wrap up warm you two - I'm thinking this snow will soon pass ........

Glad - delighted in fact to hear you're on the mend - I did begin to wonder if you had succombed for good! LOL! Just been to the caravan, taking my friend Joan for a short break as well as myself - got there at teatime but we packed a lot in to a few hours and she enjoys watching our big bird table which is supporting 5 pairs of bullfinch at the min!
Not much sleep last night - a combination of mothing, then rain - which resulted in a dash outside to bring trap in, then leg cramps (from eating chocolate and ice cream - boy did we misbehave after the fish and chip supper - I went hunting the shelves at Spar and packets and boxes of sweeties, choc and ice cream lept off the shelves..........)!!!!! I won't admit it Ian when he gets in from work tonight - he would throttle me!!!

Thanks for your good wishes, I've finally more or less got rid of the dratted bug, I feel like I've had it all year! I read your message, decided to reply once I was feeling a bit better - was feeling very sorry for myself at one point - and it's taken me until now to find it again!
Being self-employed, I don't often get out quite as often as I'd like, but I don't spend too much time indoors when the weather is great.
Having been ill, I had a lot of work to catch up with so haven't been out too much, only long enough to see a couple of pairs of Ospreys, have a great walk around the nature trail at Insh Marshes and see 33 species of birds.
Anyway, I'm off to the river at Nairn tomorrow to meet up with Inverness Botany Group and investigate the Flora (and Fauna) up there.
I did find a Capercaillie once, or rather he found me, he jumped out from behind a bush, I don't know who got the biggest fright him or me!!! Typically, I wasn't fast enough with the camera.

Really sorry to hear about the tonsilitis - there's a lot of it about at the min - I hope it misses me tho as I had a chest infection from Nov to Feb which resulted in strained muscles in my chest from coughing - the pain has only just died away from that - it was particularly upsetting on the left side of my rib cage as I had a fall at work and crcked a rib on the right side which has taken months to settle - lifes a pain I find for someone as clumsy and virus-prone as me!!!! Anyway hope you are out this morning enjoying that fantastic area you live in - goodness if I lived in Aviemore I;d never be in!!! And I'd have found a capercaillie by now - or that would be one of my wish list items ticked!!! I keep hoping every year that one will walk out onto the path and accost me - oh heaven!!!
