I have only just picked up your message. Sorry, I don`t read this section very often.
I have not lived in Warks since 2003. having ceased farming in 1989 to follow another calling.
Digicams which are easily carried your pocket were not around then. I was using an SLR only carried when I was photographing.
The sheep were eaten in that way for around 7 years. Dead ewes were thankfully quite rare. This happened EVERY time I left a dead one in the field. I only left dead ewes out overnight at busy times. At other times I would generally get any sickly ewes in.
Did you hear that there was an ABC on the CCTV in Stratford? Or was it a myth?
There were fowlpens ripped open by something with large claws in Claverdon at the time as well.
Dogs went missing quite regularly as well. I understand that leopards feed on village dogs in the countries where leopards live in the wild
Dave. - 13-10-2010 07:25 PM - permalinkthemainzedHi bigdave60dog,
I'm in Warks too, and read your posts on big cats. Your description of the sheep certainly sounds like cat, a bet you didn't take any photos though? How long ago was it and do you still keep sheep?
Sadly the dead one in the barn turned out to be just a mummified fox but I do believe one patrols through our county occasionally, perhaps once or twice a year.
Cheers, Tim - Yes...'couched in his kennel, like a log, with paws of silver, sleeps the dog...
- Hi bigdave, I loved your post tonight on my 'where are you' thread, it reminded me a little of the style of writing of Walter De La Mere...Do you know of the poem he wrote...'Silver'..
I could almost see your surroundings and wildlife, thanks to your very discriptive post..Posie..:) - Hi bigdave. I spotted your comment on the 'cows & ramblers' thread about cows killing hares. Do you have any further info about this? I'd be very interested to know what/why it happens. Cheers, Marc.
