Hi,
In a small inlet off Plymouth Sound lies a tidal lake and a freshwater lake in the grounds of Radford Park. In the park is an
arboretum of over 200 trees and shrubs which has been created to preserve the area and act as a haven for wildlife, it is also an area of great historic importance with the likes of
Raleigh & Drake who, on a high tide, would sail in to Hooe Lake and land their treasures transporting them to Radford house for safe keeping.
This beautiful area is under constant threat from local housing & business development. Local groups with an interest in the protecting the wildlife and habitats are falling by the wayside. Recently
'The Radford and Hooe Lake Preservation Association' after a 25 year run dissolved for that very reason as their traditional committee based methods of membership unfortunately failed to embrace technology and failed to attract a younger audience.
In light of this I am now running a website which aims to create a valuable resource of all information relating to the Radford & Hooe Lake area. It's still in it's early days but we hope to document the [B
]hooe lake history[/b] &
Hooe Lake wildlife of this beautiful area.
Just thought I would try and raise awareness for the area. Thanks. Mike
