| | | Re: opinions on my site That's a good start Adam with a clear layout and good photos!
However.... (you did ask for comments and criticism! )
It would be interesting to know where the photos were taken and when, for example, "Garden, Anytown, County, October 2008"
or "New Forest, Hampshire, July 2009"
or "North Uist, Scotland June 2008"
That sort of thing.
If you are really serious about making it look more professional, then I think you should start your sentences in the Diary section with capital letters (!) and maybe give the scientific name of the birds etc. in brackets/italics after the common name.
Good luck!

| | | Re: opinions on my site Thanks for that solus, thats exactly the kind of thing I want
To be honest I'm considering getting rid of the diary, as I have never been very good at keeping consistent diaries and it looks a bit silly with just 4 short entries.
I have always had a problem with capital letters when typing (never problems with handwriting though), I just skip them out .
Thank you very much for the feedback, and i'll start adding location/dates now .

| | | Re: opinions on my site Apart from the photographs which are great can I suggest the following.
The width of the site is a bit small (728px). Not many people use 800x600 resolution any more so you could make it a bit wider 800px or even 1000px.
When you go to the thumbnails of the insects they are so small you can't see what they are.
Getting a new site up takes time but your almost there.

| | | Re: opinions on my site Comment left on your site - you've made a good start - and created a monster that will need 'feeding' lots more photos over time - but websites are task masters urging you to go out and see and do more - a very good thing! |

| | | Re: opinions on my site i can't alter the thumbnail size dai , but it's odd, as it doesn't always load that small. sometimes they are tiny, and other times they are a good size. i'm going to email the webs people and ask about it.
i cant adjust the width of the pages either , i am currently just customising one of the templates they give you, but i am going to learn about coding so that i can make a proper site very soon

| | | Re: opinions on my site Wow, a very clean layout there!
As Dai said, those thumbnails are very tiny! I take it that is Webs' pre-defined size, though - and consequently unchangeable.
You say about needing to learn coding to design it yourself - not so! Look for a WYSIWYG web-editor, such as Microsoft FrontPage, though the last time I saw the price was about six years ago - at £180!! WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get, you use it like Microsoft Word, with it creating the HTML code for you in the background. When you're more used to HTML you may wish to try JavaScript, which is usually all code-based and used to implement games, pop-ups, different interactive features like that. You can get free scripts out there, but it requires basic HTML knowledge in order to make the code relevant to your website pages, or to change text size or pop-up window dimensions. You'll get there!
These days I am on Linux and use a free editor - most Linux apps seem to be free, but often oh-so -complicated to install... - called KompoZer. It's everything I need, but I don't know if they make a Windows release. I suggest you try one called Nvu, I did before changing OSs and it looked nice and easy to use.
Your photos are great by the way! I'm glad to see the Hoverfly has pride of place there. I'll bookmark this one
