Monkey Mayhem is coming to Kemsing !

Wildlife enthusiast and volunteer fundraiser for INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL RESCUE, Deborah Tessier, from Sevenoaks, will be bringing a multitude of cuddly rescue monkeys and apes to Kemsing Primary School’s Christmas Fayre on December 3rd, Deborah is hoping to find forever-homes for all the abandoned primates currently in her care and, at the same time, raise urgently needed funds for IAR’s orang-utan project in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo.

Visitors to the fayre will be able to take home monkeys or apes while all proceeds from the modest “adoption fees” will go towards orang-utan rescue and rehabilitation.

“Survival in the wild for our hairy orange cousin, the orang-utan, is becoming increasingly catastrophic,” Deborah states. “Destruction of their forest home to make way for oil palm plantations continues at an unprecedented rate.” She goes on to explain that palm oil is found in so many of the products in our weekly supermarket shop because it is the cheapest vegetable fat on the market. Sadly, however, the orang-utan pays the ultimate price.

Between 2 and 4pm on Saturday December 3rd fayre goers can directly help to save the orang-utan by re-homing a cuddly monkey or ape. A life-size baby orang-utan and chimpanzee will be available for cuddles and hugs and there will be photographs of IAR’s work on show.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting as many people as possible at the event and finding lots of new homes for the primates too. It’s such a fun way to raise money and awareness and with Christmas just round the corner cuddly primates make perfect presents !” says Deborah.

Good luck to her, but it's a long way away for us.

I find orang-utans far more appealing than chimpanzees. Chimpanzees always seem demonic and demented to me. I know that adult chimpanzees are very dangerous, but am not sure what reputations adult orang-utans have.

...... quite a bad reputation from working with Clint Eastwood for starters ....

I know of the film you refer to, but I've never seen it. ISTRC that it subsequently came out that the orang's trainer abused it badly.
