| | | Illustrated Talks – “Kingfishers – up close & personal” As many WAB members know I have had a keen interest in Kingfishers for several years now and have spent many, many hours studying and photographing them at nest sites and elsewhere.
For me, two of the golden rules of wildlife photography are – the wellbeing of the subject must always come first and know your subject.
With the latter in mind, if there are any East Anglian WAB members who want to learn more about Kingfishers you may perhaps be interested in attending one of my series of Illustrated Talks entitled “Kingfishers – up close & personal” featuring some 160 of my own photographs and illustrating virtually every aspect of the unique lifestyle of these beautiful and fascinating birds.
Over the coming months I’m presenting 7 of these talks for the following organisations throughout the region:-
• Fri. 28 October 2011 (7.30pm) - Royston & Saffron Walden Association of National Trust Members - at Royston, Herts
• Wed. 2 November 2011 (7.30pm) - Kedington Garden Society - at Kedington, Suffolk
• Thurs. 10 November 2011 (7.45pm) - Colchester Local RSPB Group - at Colchester, Essex
• Tues. 6 December 2011 (2.30pm) - West Suffolk Association of National Trust Members - at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
• Tues. 10th January 2012 (7.30pm) - Friends of Welney - at Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) Welney Wetland Centre, Norfolk
• Thurs. 12th January 2012 (7.30pm) - Huntingdonshire Fauna & Flora Society - at Huntingdon
• Fri. 17th February 2012 (7.45pm) - Ely Wildlife Trust Group - at Ely, Cambs
I understand that all of these organisations welcome non-members on payment of a small fee but, if you wish to attend, do please contact me beforehand on 07966 465775 for venue details, etc.
I’ve already given this talk to a number of Natural History Societies, Bird Clubs and other groups up and down the country and here’s some of the feedback I’ve had:-
• "Wow ! We saw kingfishers as we have never seen them for ourselves.......... All this was delivered in a beautifully constructed talk, with clear delivery and excellent humour. Hornby Countryside Society"
• "Jeff, Thank you for your talk last night at The Preston Society. I do not patronise, but you seem to have got it just right, with a good mix of information and humour. Good luck."
• "Jeff, Thanks for coming to talk at Fylde Bird Club last night, a fantastic talk with images to match. Would thoroughly recommend this Kingfishers talk to anyone, you will not be disappointed! Thanks again Jeff, I hope you will come and talk to us again soon."
• "I attended the Stort Valley RSPB meeting where you gave a talk on kingfishers. I would like to say how much I enjoyed the evening and thank you for giving such an informative talk. I also found the taxidermy kingfisher fascinating. Thank you once again"
• "......Jeff is one of the best speakers we have ever had......" Hertford Association of National Trust Members
I hope some of you may be able to attend.
Thanks
Jeff

(Schedule 1 Licence holder for Kingfishers, Barn Owls and Avocets) | Had I known in advance that you were coming to the Preston Society or the Fylde Bird Club (both places where I have lectured in the past!) I would have turned out to see what I believe is a cracking presentation

I don't imagine I'll be doing a UK/World Tour anytime soon - I think the O2, Wembley and the other big stadiums are booked up well in advance - but I'll be sure to let you know if/when I get any bookings in the areas mentioned Quote:

Obviously it wouldn't be financially viable to accept a single long-distance booking but as my talks were very well received, with all 3 host organisations inviting me back, I may be doing some other presentations (I'm currently working on 3 others) up there at some time in the future and I'll be sure to put details here on WAB. Further 'group' bookings in that area would, of course, be most welcome
I don't know why I didn't think of posting details on here before - I know that advertising of 'products and services' is banned but (and I've cleared this with the Mods) the publicising of events such as these is obviously OK.
Anyway, thanks again for your comments

PS. Sorry but no Nige, there won't be any online recordings! | Funnily enough I was speaking to Steve Halliwell (Preston Society) today - he's been chasing me to go back to lecturing for a couple of years now - he's pencilled me in for spring 2013 in the hopes that I am going to put my first digital presentation together ......... I have enough images now - its just the weaving them into a show which I have said I will have a go at this winter Steve asked to be remembered to you Jeff and says thanks again for a terrific presentation

Pauline | If you want to use any of mine Pauline, just let me know.
Ha ha.
Tell us when you will be at it - if its reachable, I'll try and attend, I know it will be good.
Good luck.
Cheers
Ken

It was Steve who organised the other two north-west 'gigs' for me and, in effect, became my unofficial 'World Tour of Lancs' agent
Apparently they had a near-record turnout for my Kingfisher talk, only for the number to be bettered a week or two later by Marcus Conway's talk about Mull - I like to think I warmed them up for him
I'm sure you could produce a superb digital presentation Pauline - as you'll know it's quite a time consuming task and I wish you all the best with it over the winter

(Schedule 1 Licence holder for Kingfishers, Barn Owls and Avocets) | LOL Jeff! And yes I would have loved to have gone and watched Marcus on Mull too - Marcus was very kind and gave me lots of tips and insider info when he knew we were going to Mull I will have a think once the clocks change and there are dark nights and see what I can put together And thanks for the offer Ken - I might take you up on that yet!!!!
