| | | Butterfly walk Sunday 3 July at Southwater Woods, West Sussex I will be taking a bimble around the woods in Southwater on Sunday. I'll be setting off at 10am from the small (and I mean tiny!) parking embayment off Marlpost Lane so please meet me here if you would like to join me.
Southwater Woods grid reference is TQ141259
Terrain: Flat, but some areas are deeply rutted, so strong footwear with ankle support is recommended. It is mainly broadleafed woodland and farm land with some meadow.
Target species: White Admiral, Silver-washed Fritillary, Purple Hairstreak, hutchinsoni Comma, marbled white and hopefully Purple Emperor.
Meeting place: Meet at small parking embayment off Marlpost Lane. |

For sat navs, the grid ref converts to Lat: 51.021161N Long: 0.374577W and the nearest postcode is RH13 9DA.

| | | Re: Butterfly walk Sunday 3 July at Southwater Woods, West Sussex Have a great trip folks, fingers crossed for good weather for you.
Its a bit too far for me to attend plus I only live 30 miles from the best site in the UK for his imperial majesty.
For those who haven't met him before, enjoy, your first meeting with him will stay in your memory for a very long time |

Are there any facilities nearby? |

I am afraid there are no facilities around and there isn't much around at all that will be open to the public early in the morning. I imagine most people will get to the meeting place via the A24 and there is a petrol station and McDonalds at Bucks Barn where you can have a comfort break which is about 10 - 15 minutes drive away from the meeting place. McDonald's - Buck Barn A24 / A272 - Opening Times
Later in the day there will be pubs open in the area but these are all a drive away (too far to walk I am afraid).
Also for anyone coming down the A24 from the M25 you can use the public toilets and there is a cafe called Rykers at the car park at the bottom of Box Hill which is approximately 40 minutes from the meeting place.

| | | Re: Butterfly walk Sunday 3 July at Southwater Woods, West Sussex Sorry you can't make it Hobjob but completely understand, likewise Wildwoman.
If anyone needs a contact telephone number for tomorrow pm me please before 9pm this evening.
I've got a few people coming along from a butterfly forum too so there'll be a few knowledgeable people on the subject there in addition to the lovely Wabbers. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
