I wasn't there at the weekend but I've been before and I love it there. I think that might be a cape shelduck, or possibly a new zealand shelduck, but I know it's some variety of shelduck!

Guy | Thanks guy! Yep, I tried google images with your two suggestions and it's a cape shelduck. Lovely little things

The Bittern was showing well and I shot a whole 2Gb card of it. I have just posted one shot in the gallery and will put up another shortly of a very cheeky little Robin who must think he is human, judging by how close he came to me and three other luck snappers. |

| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting Thanks Gaina for the taste of Slimbridge (and possibly the smell). I last went there about 30 years ago. However, next month we are to stay in Bristol with our son and his fiancee and have agreed a visit to Slimbridge. Looking forward to this very much - hoping for all sorts of nice things.

Colin | You're welcome . It was my first visit and I can't wait to go back - ideally when the ducklings and goslings start popping out

What a nice surprise for us to be able to view a snippet of Slimbridge in motion!
It was great to see the result of what you've all been planning, I must admit I was feeling a bit left out up here in Cumbria (no snow either!) as I was following who wanted to go...who couldn't....I felt like I should have been somewhere Sunday.
Excellent work...thanks Lovely photos too! |

Excellent work...thanks Lovely photos too! | I was lucky to get that video - my camera got 'the black screen of death' after than and has been diagnosed with a CCD problem that is going to be more expensive to repair than just getting a new camcorder - and just as I'd saved up for my Sigma 105 too. Blah, the sigma will have to come first I think as I've got a nice little video function on my compact camera that'll do me for now .
How close is WWT Washington to you? I used to go there quite a bit when I lived in Northumberland. Worth a visit if you've never been before.

| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting Hi Again Gaina ( hey, an anagram..but you already knew that, didnt you )
I just had a look at WWT Washington and it's about 4 hours away from me
Sorry to hear about your camera ..isn't it always the way...there's always more expense.
Lucky you managed to get the footage before it gave up! I had to go on the internet to see what a Sigma 105 ( I am learning all the time on this site ) .
Look forward to seeing more pictures |

I really need to pay more attention to some of these threads; I was at Slimbridge myself on Sunday, but didn't realise there was an organised WAB event going on!
There was certainly some impressive looking camera equipment on display in that Zeiss Hide (and plenty of it!). That Bittern really is getting the star treatment, and rightly so! |

John | I stopped in there a few times, firstly around 10.00, and then again around lunchtime for about an hour when the bittern was showing well. Strange to think I probably chatted with a few of you without knowing it!
I'll pay closer attention next time! |

I'll pay closer attention next time! | if you saw a chap wearing a cream coloured Birdforum cap well that was me. We were in there from about 1pm to about 2:30pm up the far corner of the hide, right over where the Bittern was. If you were there then you would have probably heard Boddie and me trying to direct the others where the bird was.
