| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting That is an awesome shot Kev of the Woodpecker. Possibly one of the best I have ever seen.
My best shot of the day was one of the wild Pintails near to the In Focus shop.
I did see the Bittern in the end, and even got a few shots, but they are not really good enough to put in the gallery.
It was good to meet everyone. It's just a shame we spilt up into various groups.

I think that those badges would have made a heck of a difference to the meeting
We do have such very charming and clever people on this site and I look forward to meeting more of you
The quality of Kevs images never ceases to amaze

| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting It's pretty much a straight image. What colour there was seemed to spoil the image so I converted it to b/w.
Imagine a mute swan in an aggressive pose swimming away from you and then look in detail at the arch of the wings and you get this |

| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting Well here's three of mine from yesterday.
The Tufted Duck is probably my favorite, I took a few sequences of this duck flapping and this turned out the best.
The bittern I had to post just to show what Brian and I were doing for the first 2 hours of the morning (and that hide/wind tunnel was really cold)
Finally I thought I would post my version of what is probably the same woodpecker on the same feeders as Kev's, this one was taken at 400mm and is also cropped (shock horror )
Brian has promised to come along later with his shot of the bittern, with a bit of arm twisting he might even post a few others as well.

| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting Hi Bob
I actually managed a shot with the Bittern a bit more in the open but it was hard to get an image with so many people in the hide.
I was constantly being banged. I was standing on a narrow ledge and couldn't hold my balance very well and also the wind kept on blowing me off that shelf. Nightmare. Still I did manage a few shots of the bird.
BTW I like that tufty shot

| | | Re: Images from the Slimbridge Meeting You guys were so lucky to see the bittern. I am dieing to see one. My Local Nature Reserve had one in 2002 and it doesn't have that many reeds at all . Unfortunately when i went I didn't see it but it was good to know it was on my local patch. Does anyone know how long it would take to get to slimbridge from South Devon? |

I actually prefer your GSW. It shows the character of the bird, in a natural setting and at a natural viewing angle - lovely.

Jerry | Thanks for the comments Jerry
It was good to meet everyone yesterday if only, as Jerry said, briefly. Brian and I really wanted to get some shots of that bittern and unfortunately that meant we always seemed to be going in the oposite direction to the rest of you.
John, I know what you mean about falling off that small ledge in the Ziess hide, it's just not set up for photographers, which is something it seemed to have in common with a lot of the other hides at slimbridge. Strange considering they have just launched a photography competition for shots taken solely at the reserve. Luckily when we were in the Ziess hide there were only 7 photographers in there so we all managed to get some sort of angle on the bittern without jostling one another.
Gaina, sorry we missed you we were looking out for that Slipknot sticker but couldn't see it anywhere.
Kev, I love that swan image, it's completely different to any that I have seen before, the problem I have is that I just don't see this kind of shot when I'm in the field.
P.S. How many Canon100-400 lenses were there at slimbridge yesterday? My guess is 20+

I hope we can organise another WAB meet soon because I really enjoyed yesterday and would love to spend more time with you all .
