| | | Re: Wicken Fen dragonfly meet 16th July 2011 I'm glad you enjoyed yourself Dave.
I was thinking about those that had gone to Wicken, whilst watching the heavens open up here in Coventry and wondering if was the same with you guys.
Your braver than me in that weather, although I must admit to not being well enough to come anyway.
Hopefully Wicken will be a arranged again next year and this time the weather good enough so that we can have more members there, as it is a brilliant place when the sun's out but not so good when it isn't (well not for photography anyway)

In fact, Jerry and I left our cameras in our cars for this morning's walk. My binos are now in the airing cupboard drying out as they got condensation inside.

| | | Re: Wicken Fen dragonfly meet 16th July 2011 My first few images:
Raindrops on a lilypad (Jerry saw the potential image in this scene and I stole his good idea. Thanks Jerry!)
Water lily in the heaving down
The view from one of the hides
The same view six hours later
Some shots of the windpump
Just as I was leaving, the sun came out and hit these poppies.

I hid inside all day in the end! |

You know, once you're pretty much wet through, provided you're still warm, it's rather fun to just soak it all in (the atmosphere and scenery, I mean).
This is the only dragon/damsel image I got all day - and it's not even sharp
I think this was my best image of the day
It seems to have reduced antennae, so I'm not sure how to tell if it's Small or Essex Skipper.
It was good to see Dave and Dave again and to be able to introduce them to Wicken. A good day, despite the rain.
Jerry

| | | Re: Wicken Fen dragonfly meet 16th July 2011 In spite of the weather I thoroughly enjoyed the day - well I cut some of the afternoon so missed all those butterflies that were definitlely not showing in the morning except one Essex skipper.
Gorgeous wild flowers.
I shall put it in the diary to go back next year -- on a fine day!
And I got drenched again today in Northants. And the missus says the car smells, which is a bit cheeky, but I guess it is those two pairs of wet socks and wet boots. |

A few more pics...
Muntjac while we were still getting ready. We saw some more, later in the day.
A juvenile moorhen enjoying the rain. Agelena labyrinthica
Honey bees
A white-lipped snail Rhagonycha fulva Helophilus trivittatus
Marmalade hoverflies, Episyrphus balteatus, feeding on the beautiful marsh woundwort.
