| | | Ivinghoe Beacon and College Lake, 19 June 2011 I'm arranging a WAB meet at Ivinghoe Beacon and College Lake again this year, the date being 19th June 2011. Once again we will meet at 10.30am at the car park for Ivinghoe Beacon.
Here are the threads from the previous two years (hopefully we might have a few more people this time ):
2009 Ivinghoe Beacon, Saturday 11th July
2010 Ivinghoe Beacon & College Lake, late June 2010
The main interest would be in chalk downland wildflowers, but there will be butterflies and other insects about, and a few birds as well. Once again, Tiggrx will be on hand to give us his expert advice on identifying wildflowers.
It's about three-quarters of a mile from the car park to the top of Ivinghoe Beacon, and we would probably walk 2.5-3.5 miles over about three hours. There are some steep slopes, so stout footwear is probably advisable.
There are no facilities at the Beacon - the nearest are at Ashridge about five minutes drive away (NT Shop, food, toilets). But after exploring Ivinghoe Beacon, we would move on to the B,B & O Wildlife Trust's College Lake reserve (which does have facilities). I think they suggest a £2 donation from visitors who are not Trust members. It's probably a two-mile (mainly flat) walk around the reserve.

| | | re: Ivinghoe Beacon and College Lake, 19 June 2011 Right between a weekend away and a couple of weeks holiday for me, which means I'll probably have mundane stuff like piles of washing and re-packing to do, so probably won't make this one. Shame, would've been nice to see some of your walking country Pete |

Is this still going ahead?
I'm just catching up after a spell away and see that it clashes with Thursley
I might try and do both ................. |

| | | re: Ivinghoe Beacon and College Lake, 19 June 2011 Woops! I was going to Thursley again myself, though probably only on the Saturday. I didn't realise there would be a clash, Thursley is usually two or three weeks later.
Sorry folks, I will have to rethink the date for this meet so that it doesn't clash with Thursley Common (or any other) WAB meet. |
