| | | Butterfly walks 3 July and 6 August I am thinking about doing two walks next summer if anyone is interested.
The first would be on the first weekend of July, looking for purple emperor, silver washed fritillary, and white admiral. This would be at Southwater, near Horsham, West Sussex.
The second would be the first weekend of August and this would be for chalkhill and adonis blue as well as many other chalk species at Denbies Hillside, near Dorking, Surrey.
Both walks could be tied in with additional events at nearby locations as there are many good sites nearby for inverts, birds and flowers. |

Plus you will probably know far more about what we see than I will, I am relying on the other wabbers to help me out as I haven't led a walk before.
It will be lovely to have you there too, Ukwildlifeo |

| | | re: Butterfly walks 3 July and 6 August That's great. I'll try and russle up some silver washed fritillaries for you, Dave, and hopefully we'll get a chance to get up close to a few as well.
Other species we may see on the day (weather permitting) are purple hairstreak, marbled white, peacock, comma, red admiral, ringlet, meadow brown, large white, small white, green veined white, speckled wood, large skipper, small skipper, essex skipper. |

I don't want to haul all the way down to darkest Sussex and not see one!

Jim | Absolutely no guarantee at all! If the day is cold and wet we might not see anything, let alone a purple emperor. Plus it is very early to see them so if the time of year is cold it may delay emergence and they may not even be around at all.
BUT if they are on the wing, and the day is going to be hot, and if we are there by 10am I know where to look for them.
Faz and Jennie you'll be very welcome and no need to let anyone know for definite if you can make it until much closer to the time.
I know wabbers have a wide range of expertise among them so even if the butterflies aren't around I am sure there will be other things to look at. There are a few birds around the site, there were honey buzzard this year and spotted flycatchers.
