| | | Public transport .... I think it's great that people are arranging meets and getting together - I'm not likely to get to any of these partly because they seem mainly to be birdy things (no disparagement - but that's not my field! ) and partly because I have other committments. However, if I were going to one, I would want to know how to get there by public transport. Looking through the threads, I see this has only been mentioned once (to Thursfield) ... I think it should be a priority when anyone suggests a meet.
I do, however, appreciate that some people offer lifts or car shares - the next best thing or even preferable if you can fill a car ... ?
It isn't difficult to arrange these things on a fairly local scale but surely we ought to be working towards "environmentally friendly" transport on a larger scale? |

I'd certainly hope that if members live relatively close to each other, then car sharing, as a lot of our members are doing, is essential. We've got to be as green as possible.
Sadly, it's not so easy getting to the more remote reserves etc, without the use of a car and with public transport in this country, not given the priority it should, then it has to be our own modes of transport.
Also it depends on what our members want to see. I'd be hard pushed to see a golden eagle, for instance, in Kent
I suppose if a meeting is set up early enough, we could all start walking!

| | | Re: Public transport .... In my neck of the woods Paul that would be impossible. No regular bus service from my village.. a dial a bus in the week if you book it and it is available and nothing at all on Sundays. Fraid my cycling days are well and truly behind me. To go to one of the meets via public transport would require three days. One out.. one there.. and one back... mm.. cept there wouldnt be a bus available to get back. Good where it can be done tho.
Jaki... living in a one horse town!!!! where the horse died and wasnt replaced!!

Of course balanced against the need to be green is the need to be safe - it might be a tad unwise for some members , perhaps especially the ladies (not wishing to be sexist or anything * he says walking into a minefield * ) to get into a car with someone they havent met outside of cyberspace.
That aside a good point well made paul - When ever I organise a meet from now on I will try to give info on public transport or links to such info.

True, though, and a good point; but I'm sure that could be overcome by making the committments public and getting a car full! Quote:

in preference to the car.Only profitable overpriced routes thrive
