weeting meeting 21/22 of july

At popular request I am organising a meet for weeting heath (where i used to be a warden) on this weekend to tie in with boddies minsmere meeting. As Boddie posted first I will let him have first choice of the 21 and 22nd and organise weeting on the other day.

For those that dont know Weeting is one of the best sites to see and possibly photograph stone curlew and woodlark - however in common with boddies minsmere meet this meet will not primarily be a birding meet more a chance to meet other members and have a laugh in the (hopefully) sunny weather - There are many other sites worth a visit in the brecks including thompson common which is excellent for dragon flies and flowering plants so there should be something for everybody. Thopmson also features an excellent pub

I will be camping between the two meets and am happy to arrange this for other people too possibly also running a moth trap assuming that one of the porpie boys can bring /or lend me a trap

if you are interested please sign up below

I'd like to think we could join you on this one; I won't be able to commit to anything before the end of February though.
Boddie should be in possession of one of my traps that could be used for this session.

Hi Lynda

Weeting is quite near to Brandon, Thetford. Certainly well worth a visit at the right time of year for the Stone Curlews. Last year when I went the birds were the nearest to the hides that they had been for many years. I was also fortunate to see a Spotted Flycatcher sitting on a branch just outside one of the hides. There were a pair who were feeding young nearby.

Hopefully you will be able to make the meet, what ever date is decided upon. With Eeyores knowledge I am hoping to learn something new.

Re: weeting meeting 21/22 of july

This could be a good day out in its own right as there is plenty to do around that area with plenty to see.

Here is a link to where the reserve is for those that don't know.
Streetmap.co.uk- search results

Regarding distance to Minsmere. It is only about 60 miles between sites so no big deal driving wise, if you are up to it, and with the long nights still with you it will be done in daylight.

Unfortunately I won't be coming on this meet as I will have done that area a few times already by then but it is a meet that all members that attend should thoroughly enjoy.

John

Re: weeting meeting 21/22 of july

So if you are looking at the same weekend this meet would be for the Sunday as Saturday is the Minsmere day.

As long as any new job commitments dont cause problems you can count me in for this one, and I'll bring a generator and mothing gear.

Okay just to confirm that this will be on Sunday 22nd of July following on from the Minsmere meet on the 21st. - Camping will probably be in the minsmere area as this is easier than in the Brecks. full details on where etc nearer the time.
