Minsmere April 28/29th.

There is a Birdwatching meet that has been arranged for Birdforum Members that I will be attending. A few WAB members are also BF members so I was wondering if any of the WAB members (BF members or not) would like to join us. I don't have the full details yet as they won't be posted until closer to the date.

It can be a two day thing or you can join us on one of those days. I know the Eel's Inn, Eastbridge is a proposed evening meeting place on the saturday night. They also do B&B there but if anyone is interested for staying over for the Sunday I suggest you start looking for B&B in the vicinity now. It is such a popular Birdwatching venue, especially at that time of the year with all the new arrivals coming in, that accommodation is likely to become scarce the longer you leave it.

Minsmere at that time of the year is brilliant and add on Dunwich Heath by the side of it and you have the perfect birding meet. From Dartford Warbler to Bittern (possibly booming by then) and all the Warblers plus Cuckoo, Nightingale and whatever else might turn up is on the cards, such as the Savi's Warbler I had back in 1998.

The meet will be guided by two excellent volunteer wardens from Minsmere (both BF members who have done this each year for the last three years) so if there is anything you want to see there is a good chance that Ivan and Scott will know if it is there and where it is likely to be found.

Hope to see you, and anyone else that fancies joining us, on the 28th. It will be a two day event so if you can't make the Saturday let me know and I will see what the arrangements are for the Sunday.

Hi Peter

I have no plans as yet. I was watching a G W Teal on Sunday so another one won't get me running just yet.

I am coming up to a very busy period now. In Norfolk and Suffolk for 4 days from this Thursday, then the following week I am in Scotland (Nethybridge) from April 6th to the 10th. The following week I have no plans other than gardening but after that is Staffs and poss Yorks on 21st, Minsmere 28th and 29th and I am then flying out on May 3rd for two weeks in Lesvos.

John

Re: Minsmere April 28/29th.

It was claimed a bittern was already booming (and several grunting) when I visited Minsmere two weeks ago. But they weren't coming out for us.

Derek (Derekimo, more lurking than posting) and I are hoping to be there on Sunday 29th. My understanding is that we are due to meet in the car park at 9.00. But no doubt there will be more instructions nearer the time. Look forward to meeting everyone.

Re: Minsmere April 28/29th.

Hi Smartie

I forgot to update this thread.

I will be off to Minsmere tonight for a meet with some Birdforum members. On Saturday we are meeting at the 2nd car park at Westleton for 9am on the 28th. Here is a link to the car park.

On the Sunday we are meeting at the Minsmere visitor centre at 9am. If you, or any of the WAB members, wish to come along on either or both of those days you are more than welcome.

If you do come you will recognise me by the cream coloured Birdforum cap I will be wearing.

John
