sounds like it might be quite a laugh. does it matter that i'm deeply un-knowledgeable when it comes to wildlife in general? will i be able to pick everyones brains and ask lots of questions of all these very knowledgeable peeps?

Accordingly we will sort something else out in the minsmere area for the other day of this weekend and I'll organise a seperate weeting meeting (also taking in east wretham, thompson common which is top for dragons, and other breckland places on a seperate weekend)
To avoid trashing or hijacking andrews thread I will start another one for the weeting meeting as soon as i have checked my diary which is currently at work, so please save all comment on this for that thread

Accordingly we will sort something else out in the minsmere area for the other day of this weekend | Minsmere has enough habitat for two days, but within easy (< 10m) you have:
Dingle Marshes
Walberswick marshes / reedbeds
Walberswick up the blythe river
Dunwich Cliffs / Westleton common
North Warren
Hen reedbeds / blythe river / Southwold marshes
Iken Cliffs / Snape maltings
Snape Common
Kittiwakes at Sizewell (if they come back now that the
warmer re-cycling water has been turned off)
or a boat trip across to Havergate from Orford? This
would cost a few pounds and would need to be booked.
(about 15 miles though, but you could pass
one or both of Iken, Snape and North Warren). |

| | | Re: Revised Minsmere Meet 21/22 July And I will be there next week staying on the reserve . . . I've got to that stage of 'can hardly wait' and 'hope nothing goes wrong to stop me' stage!! I shall sample it - esp the mothing at nights and post my results in a couple of weeks (second week we are moving to Norfolk!) If anyone is in either area and spots me I'll be glad to say hello! I will be easily recognisable with husband and 'small mother' in tow!!! Have a smashing weekend in July guys!

| | | B & B and Campsites near Minsmere Camp-Sites
========
I've not stayed on any of these for many a long year, and
I have no commercial interest in any of them !!
Eels foot Pub, Eastbridge
Don't know if they allow tents, but certainly caravans
and Motor homes in the past.
They also have built some B & B rooms in the last 18m
1.5m drive / walk to visitors centre
Adnams pub and local suffoolk cider, Aspall
Thursday night is free for all folk music night
Vulcan Arms, sizewell
Has small campsite, again not sure if they take tents
Cliff House, sizewell
Right on the cliffs / beach, takes tents and caravans
(and has some statics)
both of these are abt 1.5 miles walk to Minsmere visitors centre
along the beach.
Cakes and Ales, Leiston
Again not sure if take tents, but large quiet site
at the back of Leiston - 3m by car to Minsmere
Cliff House, Dunwich
(don't confuse with the sizewell one, by car they are
ten miles apart, about 2 along the beach)
again about 1.5 m walk to visitors centre, about 4 by car.
Better sea views at Sizewell.
I think thiss one has its own licensed bar, and some
some self catering accom. Prob does some food too.
Saxmundham Has two sites that I know of
Carlton - which is about 1.5 milesNorth out of town
and Lakeside about 2m to West.
But why you want to be further from Minsmere I don't
know.
Darsham has Haw-woods and Sternfield (just to south
of Saxmundham) has Marsh farm, and Benhall has one on
a small fishing lake who's name I can't remember!!
Aldeburgh has camp-site just set back from the beach.
There are whole host of small caravan club, and camping and
caravan club certified locations in the area, including one in
Eastbridge and one in Middleton that I can think of straight
away.
Bed & Breakfast
===========
There is so much around it is ridiculous, but this is a tourist
area, though tends to be those after quiet and nature - most
of the coast from southwold to Woodbridge is in conservation hands.
Google will help.
Westleton and Middleton are the two closest villages
to Minsmere and both pretty, and both with good pubs, but the
Crown in Westleton is a small Hotel with good (in the past)
restaurant and wine cellar - they have lots of en suite bedrooms,
but prices will not be B&B! It changed hans about 2 years ago.
The White Horse pub in Westleton has just changed hands too.
Satis House at Yoxford has a high reputation as small country
Hotel, with FANTASTIC malaysian food, which is based on multiple
personal experiences, though not pub prices. Just order the banquet
and sit back and enjoy.
Don't be tempted by Woodbridge, Wickham Market, Framlingham
and Southwold - they are a good half hour drive to Minsmere.
Walberswick is pretty and slightly closer and home to the Freuds and
PD James, and holds the world crabbing championships !!
But the river walk is good for birding.

| | | Re: Revised Minsmere Meet 21/22 July Possibly me, but I`m more a creature of impulse, organisation is not my strong point. When the meeting place is finalised I will try to get there. (after my last escapade I`d better look at the map more closely took me 4 hours to meet up with the rest at Thursley) If I come down I will either find a B+B or only stay one day.
