| | | Leighton Moss April 2011 Ok the poll has risen to 6 so I guess I better take my own advice and take ownership of what I suggested!! I've already chosen the dates/timing mainly cos I can't do it any other time! So I'm looking at the week before Easter - Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, 16,17,18 and 19th Apr. (But if anyone else wants to do Leighton Moss at some other time of year cos they also know the area well then please do!)
The Bitterns should be booming and the Marsh Harriers arrive back in late March so should be displaying by this stage.
Side trips can include
Jenny Brown's Point/Jack Scout dependant on tide
Mobile Hide photography (only Mon and Tues) at our caravan baited site (no use at weekends too many folk on site!)
Badgerwatching (evenings)
Foulshaw and Meathop Mosses (adders? if they feel like playing!)
I will have a think about accommodation in the area and see what I can come up with - I need to check quite a few things first before saying what is on offer - I shall expand later (and so will this thread I suspect )

| | | Re: Leighton Moss April 2011 I'll pencil myself in for this one please - can't commit 100% as I'm not too sure about dates for university trips.
I'm particularly keen on the badger-watching as I've still never seen a live badger in the wild.

| | | Re: Leighton Moss April 2011 I'm in. Deffo would like to see the adders and the badgers, and the birds, and the bees...and well everything! LOL Accommodation not too big a prob for me, as hopefully van will be fixed by then! Had it to the body shop today, looking at £4000 to repair, it's only worth 5,000 so dunno if insurance will do it...we'll see! I'll sleep in a tent if I have to! J x

| | | Re: Leighton Moss April 2011 I've gone missing at the moment - tho I keep finding my way back in here - when I know I should be elsewhere I have too get mum's house empty as soon as poss and its a huge task - the place hasn't been touched for 40 years ......... so I shouldn't be on here much for at least a month to 6 weeks .....
But as far as I am concerned the meet is still on 16 to 19 Apr. I haven't as yet checked any info so if anyone wants to do a bit of investigating if you think I'm not coming up with stuff fast enough then please do. I have my eye on finding out about the price of the wooden 'pods' on our caravan site - Fell End at Hale, Beetham Nr Milnthorpe. They are like wooden tents - so its camping but in something substantial that shouldn't blow away in the night . I don't think there is any room left for tents - what was the tent area has been cleared, chipped to hardstanding and caravan/electric pitches made - would be fine for the campervan owners among us.
Ian reminded me the other day that we could include an early morning visit to Sizargh to see if the hawfinches are coming out to play?! We will try and go round and scatter some sunflower on the car park on a few occasions prior to the weekend ...........
If anyone wants to get hold of me urgently then go to my zenfolio site and send an email from there as I am checking my emails more than I'm checking here and last week I had wab on the blocked senders list so that interesting threads did not keep appearing and tempting me to just have a little look .......
