BUT
The food is good, but not the cheapest A bit "Home Counties"
The car park previously put up is a little way from Thursley, it is really in Elstead
(SU 899 417) and beside the moat.
(There is also a car park in Thursley village centre (SU 900 397) beside the Cricket Pitch, but not on the OS maps) but if the aim is to get to the wetter boggier areas for the d-flies, then Elstead is the better bet.)
The pubs of Elstead are much closer the moat car park. From memory three, The Woolpack, The Mill and the Golden Fleece.
I'm that way fairly often as my sister and poorly mother live nearby, so could do a scouting trip if people wanted.
The YHA at Thursley is right in the depths of the puch bowl, very picturesque and signposted off the A3 about a mile North of Hindhead traffic lights (SU 895 366) which has
an height barrier. I think it can also be reached through the lanes in Thursley.
For more luxury Frensham Pond Hotel (SU 841 399) is a thought. Beautiful setting beside the lake.
IRC there is no local travel lodge, the closest being Guildford and Liphook on the A3.
The Pride of the Valley at Churt (not village centre) (SU 871 392) is another thought.
I had a lousy meal in the Devils Punch bowl some 15 months ago at Hindhead |
