| | | Salmon Run meet November 13/14 2010 This is the fallout from Leaping salmon..where to photograph them?
Top suggestion at the moment is Force Falls on the River Kent.
Neil can't do the weekend of 6/7 November and I can't do the weekend before that (30/31 October), but I'm a little concerned that 13/14 November might be leaving it a bit late. Somebody reassure me please!
Anyone intereseted please sign up below!

| | | Re: Salmon Run meet November 13/14 2010 I would agree that the 13/14th November may be getting late.
One thing you cannot plan is "the water". Salmon will not run until they get "a bit of fresh".
The main run on the Kent especially for the larger fish is mid October to mid November so you've picked the optimum time however, as with all wildlife related plans, don't be dissapointed if river levels are low.
It's a great area to explore - come on up and enjoy it!
If you want any local advice give me a shout. I'm going to a cottage overlooking Force Falls this morning on business and will post a pic or two of the view you will get. |

13/14th looks good for me

| | | Re: Salmon Run meet November 13/14 2010 No idea if I can make it to this event, I would love to be there. On the subject of it being too late the only river I have seen salmon jumping is the River Exe in Devon and it was always on the 3rd weekend in November. Why would I remember this well some years back (too many now to say) I used to do a lot of white water canoeing and one of my favourite events was the Exe descent held annually on the 3rd weekend in November. The race went from above Tiverton to Exeter taking in the 18 or so weirs between. Often when in flood or just after we would watch the salmon jumping when checking out the wiers on the Saturday and then meet them coming up as we were going down on the Sunday. A great experience to find yourself paddling down the wier only to find a salmon jump in front of you. Sadly the Exe Descent is no more due to the 'elf and safety brigade

| | | Re: Salmon Run meet November 13/14 2010 I've just had a quick look at five years fish counter data from the Kent.
There's no pattern, Sept, Oct or Nov sees the major run. Just depends on "the water". |

| | | Re: Salmon Run meet November 13/14 2010 Sounds like we'll be taking a risk whenever we go. But that's okay - we were at the mercy of the weather for the Farne Islands meet and that worked well. The important thing is to get out there and enjoy it whatever happens!
Thanks for the help and advice, Woodman - I'm looking forward to seeing the pics!

| | | Re: Salmon Run meet November 13/14 2010 Very likely! On the other thread Andrew was offering to let a couple of us kip at his place but I would guess there's a limit on numbers there.
