| | | Any Outings May Bank Holiday? I think my Sister in law is coming down from Carlisle for May Day bank holiday and I will probably be tasked with keeping her occupied for at least one of the days over the weekend. I am heading down to Hastings for the May Day run on the monday on the bike but she won't be interested in that, so that leaves either Saturday or Sunday. We usually do Rainham Marshes so I'm thinking of a change of scenery. What is Watt Tyler park like is it worth a trip? If not I might have a wander down to Wildwood to see the Crossness Water Voles. |

Its a bit building sitey and the parking is a challenge after 10.30am at the mo as the main gate is out of action and entry is through the loacl tip entrance! Plus I imagine 'Go bonkers' will be running which means bouncy castles, loud music and hordes of kids that go with it!
That said Ive got some good views of chiffchaffs, blackcaps and oystercatchers recently and the cuckoos will be hopefully be putting on a good show by then.
Wildwood is great (I've only seen water voles once in the 30+ visits Ive had there! lol) The reptiles are out there now and they have added muntjac and improved a number of the enclosures. Plus the wood ants are rather excellent too |

Mike | Thanks Mike that's a great offer, you can't beat a local's knowledge. I'll see what she wants to do and let you know. |

I was at Brede High Woods this weekend and it was gorgeous - birds singing all over, lots of blackcaps, chiff chaff and the normal species, if insects are your thing there was plenty out already - beeflies, a fair few butterflies and loads of Green Tiger Beetles (i haven't posted up my pics I took yet but i'll try to add here) plus we saw newts, frogs and lizards and even the deer at 4 in the afternoon. Lots of flowers out too and the bluebells by then should be stunning.
