| | | Walking the Amazon A friend of mine is currently the first person in the World to attempt walking the entire length of the Amazon river. He is on day 575 and expects to finish in May 2010, although he is currently without accuarte GPS and having had his sponsor pull out is living on hand outs from local settlements and feasting only on farine and piranha caught in his nets.
You can follow Ed, who I have been mates with for about 10 years, at Walking the Amazon: The blog of a journey from source to sea or on Facebook and Twitter.
His blogs and contributions are fascinating. |

| | | Re: Walking the Amazon Well that sounds an incredible experience. I'll take a look at that when I have a little time.
One thing I always wonder about people who go off and explore and challenge themselves like this...how do they finance it? I'd love to have the chance but just couldn't afford it, and never have been in a position to. Is it all down to sponsorship? or was he in a position that he didn't have to worry about money too much?
Hope you don't mind me asking, it's just this pops into my mind whenever I see this type of situation and would love to know!
I bet he'll have some interesting stories when he gets back!

| | | Re: Walking the Amazon Ed did have a sponsor but they pulled out due to the current financial crisis. He has mates now attempting to raise money for him and even Sir Ranulph Feinnes has offered to help.
He had some kit donated but now his GPS has failed and his medical cover has run out so things are decidedly dicey.
Ed is attempting to raise £100,000 for charities and as an ex army Captain he is AA nails so it'll take something major to stop him. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
