| | johnny kingdom tv i have just watched the first programme of his new series on bbc2 wales and i just love his very natural approach he has when talking to camera. i first saw him on in one off prog. a few years back and i'm so glad he is still out there filming widlife. one of the main things i like about johnny which really tells me he has a proper affinity with the countryside is his high spiritual awareness of all things in the natural environment. you only get that from actually living and breathing it from an early age. most modern presenters of wildlife on the tv deliver
their schpeel in an orthodox class room fashion totally devoid of what i consider THE most important sense to have. i musty save for a new digi recorder for next year. has anyone got any comments, please feel free to comment. |

| | | Re: johnny kingdom I must say I found him at first a bit patronising/silly...hiding that dead badger and saying stupid stuff like 'this is a set' (although sure 75% of the population wouldn't know a badger if it bit them on the backside)...but he won me over a bit with his bambi in the backyard and his obvious devotion to wildlife. |

You are obviously lucky enough (as I am) to live in a rural area and have knowledge of such things.
As for hiding the dead badger, I think that is more than sensible, knowing how upset people can be seeing dead animals. I have several times called our local council depot to pick up large road kills for this very reason.
As for "more wildlife and less JK" it was the first in the series, so obviously needed to introduce the man himself and his background. No doubt subsequent programmes will be more animal based.
Being in the South West, we have seen JK for years on our local TV, but this appears to be his first venture in a national programme. We enjoyed the first one on our local BBC channel so much, we found it was on BBC Wales through Sky and watched again last night. |

| | | Re: johnny kingdom there has been a lot of mention of other threads about badgers being killed in baiting then dumped on the roadside to look like a road kill victim, this was NOT mentioned. I wouldn't advise picking up dead badgers in such a way as to hide them, people SHOULD be upset be seeing corpses all over our roads and learn to do something about it(ie in Bill Bailey's prog) and drive slower. It's not nice seeing dead animals but if you see one killed you know that you're going along a road in which they're present and to beware. Road kill is also a good souce of food for carrion creatures. I would only move somethging if it was causing a dangerous obstruction.
I did say that yes, a lot of people probably don't know what a badger is, just my opinion that the prog annoyed me a bit in the beginning. |

| | | Re: johnny kingdom i think jk covering the badger up serves two reasons one it removes the animal off the highway and is therefore no longer a danger to other road users but i would recognise that johnny as a real country person ,was covering the animal up moving it on to the verge where it could breakdown naturally into the earth and indoing so the body is returned to the soil and will help to create new life which the decaying animal
will provide. also did you notice he patted the animal and spoke to it, showing respect for the dead animals spirit which to me is very important. i would be interested to know his reason for doing that, but i'd guess i'm right, | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
