| | | Re: East Sussex meet up. If there's enough interest there's no problem with getting out there again. Other than that I'm always keen to get out there so you can always get down for a personal guided tour.
There's also some guided walks organised by the woodland trust later on. Quote:
Saturday October 10th Woodland Archaeology walk at Brede High Woods
10am -12.30pm. Meet at the main car park.
Nicola Bannister has now completed her in depth review of the woodlands history researching both in historical records and onsite remains. This guided tour led by Nicola will take you to some most important findings and describe the incredibly varied and complex history of this wood. The event is free to attend.
Saturday December 20th Guided wildlife walk at Brede High Woods with Patrick Roper
10am -12.30pm. Meet at the main car park.
Come and join us to explore the woods at Christmas to explore the changes of the seasons and the response of the woodland species. This walk is guided by expert ecologist Patrick ‘santa’ Roper. The event is free to attend.
| I'm booked in on both of these. |

| | | Re: East Sussex meet up. Hi,
I walk Brede High Wood at least once a week. I live close to the woods and it only takes me a few minuets to get there on foot.
I have been on a number of Patrick's walks in the past and would recommend them to anyone.
Patrick has been walking Brede High Woods for decades and is an expert on the area, the wildlife, and the history.
When the Woodland Trust purchased the woods, It was Patrick they commissioned to make a report of the area for them. So he has a big say in the future of the woodlands as well as knowledge on its past.
If you want a guided walk of the area, you will not find a better guide.
Patrick has received awards for his voluntary work, and was featured on springwatch.
Patrick has a website for Brede High Woods Brede High Woods: A good year for fungi
Along with others. If you watch springwatch a couple of them may ring a bell. The Square Metre at TQ 78286 18846 Windowbox Wildlife Ramblings of a Naturalist Whatlington, East Sussex in TQ7618 Sussex Amphibian and Reptile Group
Patrick and I both do posts to RXwildlife Sightings
It was mentioned in a previous post about tree felling. Some work has already started and a small area is out of bounds currently. There are still plenty of paths free to walk. I was there yesterday and easily managed to spend 6 hours there, and I only walked some of the paths.

| | | Re: East Sussex meet up. As there seems to be reasonable interest how about we make it Saturday 5th September. Meet up at the main car park at 9.30 to set off at ten. I can be there at 9 to supply hot beverages for anyone that wants one.
I'd look to finish between 4 and 5 with a lunch break back at the car park between 1 and 2 for approx 1/2 an hour.
That is nowhere near enough time to explore the woods but will give people a general idea of the layout. People can then come back and explore in more detail if they want to.
The main car park is at map ref TQ804206 off the B2089. |
