| | | Re: Farne Islands WAB Meet June 2010 Hi All,
I have booked the boat trip today for 23 people on 9th June sailing at 10am, weather permitting.
This still does not commit anyone as cancellations can be made at any time without cost. If any more want to join us you still can but the boat may get booked up as the date gets nearer. Just out of courtesy I'd like to be able to confirm final numbers with Billy Shiels by 12th May - 4 weeks before sailing - to give them a chance to sell any spare places.
I was planning on camping and have been looking at Springhill Farm campsite which is about a 20 minute walk (approx 1 mile) from Seahouses Harbour. They have pitches with or without electricity for tents or caravan / campervans.
However, this site also has - new for 2010 - something called the Bunkhouse which looks very interesting. It's a converted farm building which has eight rooms, each of which has one bunk and two single beds so it sleeps a total of 32. All eight rooms have en-suite showers. Breakfasts and packed lunches are available on request (at extra cost, obviously) but there is also a fully equipped kitchen so we can cook / prepare our own. It has a TV and DVD player in a communal sitting room and, more importantly, wireless internet! So we can log on as soon as we get back and make everyone who couldn't come exceedingly jealous!
The cost is £12 per bed per night which for me is actually £1 per night cheaper than the cost of a tent pitch, (although the tent pitch cost is for up to two people).
Full details are at Bunkhouse | Springhill Farm Holiday Accommodation although there are no photos there yet as it's still being built!
This place could take our whole party (plus David's campervan). I'm definitely going to be staying in the bunkhouse on the nights of 8th and 9th June and am happy to do a block booking for anyone else who would like to stay there, or for tent / campervan pitches on this site. Just let me know!
Our trip is in school term time but with the recession making UK holidays more popular I suggest we don't leave it too long before booking accommodation.

If I have to share with 3 girls then I am more than happy to 'take one for the team' as it were.

| | | Re: Farne Islands WAB Meet June 2010 Ian and I are making a week of it and staying up in Northumbria in a self-catering cottage in Seahouses, so we're sorted for accommodation. Happy to meet up in a pub for the evening though!
Great news about the boat booking though, am getting excited even now as I haven't been there for such a long time |

Speaking of plans, I've been doing some research into a Plan B just in case I've been sacrificing the wrong type of goat to the weather gods. I contacted Northumberland Wildlife Trust for some suggestions and a lovely lady named Laura Lowther has sent me a whole pack of info. Druridge bay looks like a good bet as there are no less than six NWT nature reserves, a country park, two local nature reserves and a National Trust site all contained within an eight mile stretch of fantastic coastline. (There's also an RSPB reserve on Coquet Island but a) you can't land there and b) if it's too rough for the Farnes it's probably going to be too rough for Coquet too.)

| | | Re: Farne Islands WAB Meet June 2010 Dave I've just had a look via your link (Thank you) and it is £13 per night for a grass pitch with no electric, so my tent will stay at home and I will stop in the bunkhouse Tue & Wed night. Are you doing final booking or shall we all book accomodation individually?
Bob
p.s. Nicola I bet I'm more excited than you as I have never been there! |
