Potteric Carr Meet

I would like to propose a meet at Potteric Carr.

It is situated 1 mile out of Doncaster and is within easy reach of the M1, A1, M18, M180 and M62 motorways.

Each time I pass this reserve it seems to have come on leaps and bounds with regards new hides etc.

This site Potteric Carr Nature Reserve: Home Page shows that the reserve is yielding some great species and photo opps. If anyone fancies this sometime soon please suggest a date and we'll get the ball rolling

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

I'm up fer it.

Although I think some of the older hides are not "photography friendly", like the one where the hide and the lake are separated by the east coast mainline !!

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

You could count me in for this one pal, as long as there is a couple of weeks notice incase I need to change shifts.
I have seen a lot of nice images from this reserve lately.

Once you have a date I'll mention it to the rest of the "posse" as I'm sure they'll want to come as well.

Don't forget to bring some beer tokens with you, as it's about £2.50 to enter.

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

This one's well in my range so should be able to make it. My only concern there is the size of the place, it's massive! Whilst this is no problem for you fit lot for me it's a bit of a problem, at least to get to some of the newer areas.
Not that that should make any difference to anyone, it would just mean I'd have to restrict myself to stay around the first part.
The site is not only good for birds, (I once had a magic display from a Black Necked Grebe there, plus saw a Bittern on my first visit.) It's pretty decent for our Odonata friends as well.
A site well worth visiting.

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

If it was anywhere near me I'd be tempted, based on the photos on the site, but it would be a bit of a trek for me!

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

Hmm. Could be a nice weekender meet. It depends when really, as things are being booked in fast. What's the best times on the reserve? The dragonflies sound good.

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

Sounds interesting! I could do it as a day trip if it's a Sunday, or as Jules says we could make a weekend of it.

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

Guys, I live here so apart from April, when I have training in the US, I am fine for any date. I can see me taking the missus some time soon on a bit of a recce.

Who wants to suggest a date?

I'd be up for a weekender too and will look into suitable mothing locations, which I would anticipate there are a few suitable places in South Yorks.

There is a budget hotel (Purple) almost on the sites' entrance so accomodation's a cinch but I can also secure a few places to camp within dependant upon the date.

Leave it with you guys

Re: Potteric Carr Meet

The new 'quadrant' is now open - rather bare looking at present but by far the biggest stretch of open water on the reserve. Best sights were a weasel running along fallen trees over a boggy area and lots of newts in the ponds.

For those worried about grub, the cafe does a nice pair of vegetarian/non-vegetarian options as well as the obligatory bacon butty and the like!
