It is highly likely that I will be able to make it on the Saturday, but not the Sunday.
Glad Rob is doing well.

Wonder what the chances are of lovely weather in 11 days time!!!
Please keep the replies and confirmations coming and anyone with queries or accommodation problems just pm me.
Its going to be great weekend and really looking forward to it, the New Forest really is a special place

| | | Re: Deer Watching Wab Meet 2008 Hi Linda,
myself and Steph are still up for it. As far as I know rogpow is too, although it will depend a lot on the weather. If the weather is seriously lousy, he'll probably pass as he has to lug all his gear over on the ferry.
Looking forward to it.
Cheers,
Marc. |

| | | Re: Deer Watching Wab Meet 2008 Linda,
How far are we likely to be walking and how close are we likely to get to any wildlife?
I don't have a problem with walking but I need to decide what photographic kit to bring. I really don't want to walk far weighed down by lots of kit, so I will probably need to be selective in what I bring.

| | | Re: Deer Watching Wab Meet 2008 Hi, Jenny
We will probably walk no further than 4-5 miles if we do then someone will have to carry me back to the car, but the ground can get pretty wet and stay wet for long periods after rain so waterproof boots would be good.
Unfortunatley we may not get as close to the deer as you do in your garden, so a large lense say 300mm or 500mm would cope as the Reds on the heath dont seem to mind people being in the distance as long as they are not to close. they seem quite happy provided you keep at 100 yds.
Although on Saturday a couple of stags walked within 30 ft. of us and casually glanced over and kept walking. We may be lucky and have a performance right in front of us, but better asume the worst case and be prepared.
Regards
Rob

| | | Re: Deer Watching Wab Meet 2008 Thanks, Rob. The reason I ask is that when we went on safari last year, I took along my 500mm lens and frankly we got so close the animals that I could not use it. I will bring it along this time, but that also means the tripod too.
I am hoping the weather stays fine but thanks for the tip about the boots.

| | | Re: Deer Watching Wab Meet 2008 Late to the party (again ) but I'll try to get there.
Was a communal campsite found? or do I just find a layby.
What else is likely to be around? Insects, Fungi.
