The info says that the sting can be treated with a dock leaf, but I know a better remedy. Carefully fold a nettle leaf indide out and rub firmly on the sting, the juice from the leaf works much better than dock.

When I was at infant school many moons ago we still used to celebrate 'Oak Apple Day' and you were supposed to wear a sprig of oak on your clothes, anyone who didn't was chased by someone who had a stinging nettle and you would get slashed around the legs with it, the boys still wore short trousers then so it was good sport, with all the mamby pambying, health and safety nonsense today can you imagine the law suites if it happened now.

I ordered some plants early in the season. I have a lovely little nettle growing in one of them. I haven't the heart the dug it up.

Every one with a garden should have a small patch of them. Good food plant for some caterpillars, and fun to push people into.

And the stinging in your fingers distracts you from the original problem?

I was treated to garlic Yarg yesterday, the nettles on them were fresh green and very good!

Never had "Garlic" Yarg..Love the nettles though.

Nor me, had Cornish Yarg and it's very good, keep meaning to make some nettle soup but have never got round to it. Hughs Stinger beer is nice.

They're a totally different family so shouldn't think they have the same values; but dead nettles, like all labiates, provide nectar and browsing so not to be sniffed at ...

I lent on one last Sunday while photographing a sloe bug. No need to slap my wrist as the nettle did that at the time! It still itches a bit even now...

I am always getting stung by nettles when trying to get close for macro shots of flowers etc. I am so busy looking for the next shot I hardly take any notice of the sting

I think I am becoming immune to it
