| | | Re: Visit to Richmond Park I'd suggest that May is not an especially propitious date if you like your stags either spectacular or symmetrical - you need a March date for that. And I can't stress how much better weekdays are if you want to see the deer do anything other than chewing the cud and adopting wagon train mode to avoid circling people/dogs... As it's a period when the park as a whole goes through a spectacular transformation it might be worth your while to do 2 visits? |

the deer should have calfs/fawns
There should be ducklings, goslings and cygnets
the invertebrates will just becoming into there full force
all the spring/summer migrants will be present
And also its quite near to the present. A later visit around rutting season can be organised later.
As for the weekend, well most people cant make weekdays, so there isnt much choice
If anyone else thinks may is a bad Idea for richmond Im up for other suggestions - Regents Park is easy to get to a surprisingly prosperous - a close up heronry and wildfowl collection. perhaps a visit there (and maybe to the other royal parks) is better? thoughts? |

I also cant stress how much worse weekdays are for a great proportion of us who have this thing called "work" we (alledgedly) do on the other five days of the week.

It's a different world and well worth taking a day away from the coalface for. And if you're already in the throes of abandoning your current employ in the Soft South for the frozen wastelands of the North-east doubly so - if you ever get the chance, do take it. |
