Dave | .......and I've got my fingers crossed and my gob shut about the weather - as the last time I went on and on about the meet at Minsmere and then backed out at the last minute as it was bad weather versus petrol costs ......... yesterday was sunny but quite cool - shivery in the wind - but forecast says warming up .........

| | | Re: Priory Water 2008 With just over a fortnight to go things are looking good.
The reserve is looking fantastic and its already heaving with insect life, already on the wing are; Four-spotted Chaser Broad-bodied Chaser Hairy Dragonfly Common Blue Damselfly Azure Damselfly Variable Damselfly Blue-Tailed Damselfly Large Red Damselfly Red-eyed Damselfly Banded Demoiselle
I am confident that these will be joined by Emperor Dragonfly, Black-Tailed Skimmer, & White-legged Damselfly by June 7th.
There is also a brilliant supporting cast of Butterflies, Birds, Moths, plants etc.... this meet really is aimed at letting people see the reserve at its best time of year. Those who attended last year in August and thought it was good then are in for a pleasant suprise.
We are looking at the possibility of adding into the weekend a visit to a small reserve less than a couple of miles away from Priory Water, this is a stunning place for Butterflies and will guarantee sightings of Dingy Skipper, Grizzled Skipper, Green Hairstreak, Brown Argus and loads of other commoner species.
All we need now is the weather to be kind to us, warm sunshine during the day and a warm night for the mothing session would be great.

| | | Re: Priory Water 2008 For those that haven't been there before you are in for a treat. For those that have never done Mothing before (or maybe you think you may not be interested) please think about doing the Mothing night with us. If the weather is right you will see moths that you never thought existed.
This is usually one of the very best meets you can go to, especially with a Chines or Indian take away to eat before the Mothing gets seriously underway.
A real feel good meet.

| | | Re: Priory Water 2008 I can recommend Kings at Asfordby they do a great chinese! Unfortunately I can't make this meet which is only a few miles down river from me, I have family visiting that w/e and we have already made other plans.
On a separate note - Steve, are you coming over to look round our ponds/river some time soon?

John | You couldn't drive me off with a big stick John .......... and that's all I'm going to say cos I wound myself up over the Minsmere meet and then backed out at the last min cos of fuel costs and site fees when the weather was dire - so I'm not going to 'hex' this meet by warbling on
Pauline
Moth trap is out in the garden - tho the rain is begining - and urban mothing in many parts of the north west has been hopeless to nill ........... |

This is the closest by far that I can find, its about 8 miles away from the reserve and I have heard that it is a very nice site.

So I may need someone to hold my hand and administer a cold flannel or a firm slap as necessary.

We disagree on the rats but we agree on the patio heaters - swings and roundabouts!
