| | | Re: Thursley 2008 I used to live 15 minutes walk away from Devils Punchbowl and I used to walk down to Thursley nature reserve through the Punchbowl - it takes about hour+half from Punchbowl Cafe car park, its all downhill down through Thursley village, cross the road and you are onto the reserve. It's a very steep climb back up to the Punchbowl at Hindhead again!
Hindhead should be worth a visit to see how they are progressing with the A3 tunnel - all under Hindhead common - trouble is that the peace of a quiet woodland on the south east side side of Hindhead (Undershaw, where Conan Doyle used to live) will be absoluteley shattered where the other end of the tunnel emerges. |

Jules - we will have to get our heads together to work out dates/timing for the Thursley and Priory Water meets, shouldn't be a problem this far off.
My own personal opinion would be to have the Priory meet in mid/late June and do Thursley in early July. If we do it this way round it will allow some of the later species such as the Black Darters, Golden-Ringed, & Common Hawkers at Thursley to become more widespread, we were a bit early for these last time.
All we need now is a decent hot Summer in 2008

Steve | Yep. I agree with you. Think we need to talk to the warden again to gain maximum benefit about the timing. Yours sounds a good idea for Priory as you know the place inside out.
We'll get the ball rolling first week in January so that folk can cancel all other events to join us .
Let's hope for a 2008 that brings in good weather and maximum emergence of inverts. Can't wait.
Jules

Pauline
PS Oh dear now I have read further on the thread and it looks like we will miss both Thursley and Priory - ah well - I'll stick it back on the list for 2009 - ha! ha! Have a good 'un - I look forward to reading and seeing the pics!!
PPS Sorry Jules - much as I'd like to see everyone again and put a few more faces to names - there's no way we're cancelling the hebrides - we missed going this year (one of the few misses since 1990) and my mind doesn't run right without its yearly dose of western isles waders, divers, eagles, orchids, skuas, harriers...............!!!
