| | | Re: Rufford Park Your Goldcrest is still beter than mine Graham at least you can see it's head, and your Siskins. I got a half decent Siskin but I stress half decent.
I will get a decent Goldcrest one day though as we do get them at Messingham just a matter of time.
Did manage quite a few decent Nuthatches though here's another that I was pleased with.

Graham, those Siskins look fairly good to me. It seems the onboard flash helped these.
Another nice nuthatch Roger, it was certainly a great site for photographing those. I'd only ever managed a handful of grabbed shots of nuthatches before.

| | | Re: Rufford Park Yes, thanks. Fairly good is being very kind.
I've got to get a good Goldcrest shot. It's becoming a bit of an obsession for me. A new flash gun is definitely on the cards. The chances of getting one sitting quietly in open sunshine is just about nil.
I've got so many Nuthatch shots I'll put some up at a later date. We're in danger of swamping the upload pages with them all!
By the way the weather this morning, when I was stuck at home, was absolutely gorgeous. Cold and a clear blue sky..One day late! Although we didn't do too bad considering. |

| | | Re: Rufford Park I went back to Rufford today, the weather this time was absolutely glorious. My kind of weather, cold but sunny with no wind. The Siskins were at exactly the same spot as the other day, even at the same time.
My chum was there of course, although he kept me waiting for 5 minutes before showing up.
This time his no show mates came round:
A Mistle Thrush was noisily protecting his trees at the Mill end car park:
I got some nice shots off the Lake:
I saw at least 7 Goldcrests, tried many shots, but they were up to their usual rubbish standards, so I'm not showing any here.
I just love that place! |

I just love that place! | I certainly shall make a return visit to the place Graham.
Good shots btw, especially the Siskins.

What !! No partridges in pear trees. Forsooth, there should be one or two lurking by now.

Roger | You must come in the Grebe Mating season Roger. These shots were from there:
Round about the end of March is an absolute must.Plus when they are feeding the young, you wont find a better site for these types of shots:
That was in July.
So that's January, March and July. |

Not flying overhead, we actually distrubed it near the spot where I introduced the Robin! Now that is a real first for me there, the Buzzard flew out of the trees and down that central walking area, towards the buildings. No chance of a shot.
Also 2 Treecreepers, a Nuthatch at post, I've uploaded one of the shots today.
Oh, thanks Ben for putting that twig into the fencing! It's proving to be a really good photo point. The Coal Tit, Nuthatch and Marsh Tit shots I've uploaded today were all on that twig!
I got over 20 shots of Goldcrests, they've all gone in the bin! |

So that's January, March and July. | Will certainly be taking you up for Grebe shots Graham as far as I'm concerned as long as the weather is reasonable I've no problem with the travelling when there are those type of images for the taking. By the way got the replacement for the pipe that finished up in Rufford lake today just needs a month or so to break it in.

| | | Rufford Park, Part 2 Had another excellent day out with these two flash coves.
Graham must have some kind of understanding with higher powers, because once again, the day started out atrocious; absolutely pooring with rain which eased off as Roger and I pulled into Rufford Car Park, the clouds disappeared and the sun shone until home time, when again, it started to pour down !!! Thanks for arranging that Graham.
Like I said, an excellent day was had. The highlight for me was the Water Rail. Absolutely brilliant to be so close to such a secretive bird. Only downside was that the netting spoiled most of my shots of it, these being the best.....
I'm afraid my Tree Creeper shots are n't very good either. Hope Roger and Graham did better.
I still find it very difficult to distinguish Willow from Marsh Tits, so be prepared to be bombarded with ID requests Graham.
All in all another great day in the company of two great WABers. Thanks boys.

| | | Re: Rufford Park Looks a lot like my Canon 400mm Matt
As Ben said another great day out despite what looked like being a poor day.
I was using the Bigma with the Canon 580EX11 speedlite flash unit and Better Beamer flash extender. This was the first real test of this set up for me and I was pleased with the results.
Just a few from today, and Ben my Treecreeper shots were rubbish as well
I will post a few more shots to the main gallery later

| | | Rufford Park and Sherwood Forest. Today I had the pleasure of meeting Roger, (Ollie) and Ben (Tormentil) at Rufford Park. This was their second visit to my local sites, and the day proved to be very productive as well as good fun.
On the way to Rufford the weather was absolutely horrendous. I thought we'd be stuck in doors all day! However, as soon as Roger and Ben arrived, the clouds started to lift, the rain stopped and the wind died down. We ended up having a really good mix of conditions.
One of the reasons for the outing was to try out a couple of flash accessories, Roger has a Better beamer device, the same one Matt_xyz used at the same site a couple of weeks ago. it was Rogers first real outing with the device.
I also had my flash diffuser to check out.
Roger, being the gentleman he is, had agreed to let me use his Canon 400mm lens today, so I could get a feel for it.
All I can say is what a lens that is! So sharp I cut myself just looking at the images on screen! So light compared to the Bigma too.
Overall I think we were all very pleased with the results we got, here's a few of my shots. I've kept my uploads down to allow the other two a chance later.
All of these shots were taken using the flash diffuser. I was really please with most of them I've not touched any of the flash eye reflections, these are exactly as taken.
I really enjoyed today, the company was excellent as always, and thanks Roger for the loan of the lens, and also the free lunch! |

It was, as you rightly say, a very good day.

| | | Re: Rufford Park and Sherwood Forest. Some cracking shots there Graham.
A thoroughly enjoyable day that fully lived up to it's promise and made all the better by our luck with the weather.
Ben and myself have posted some of our shots on the previous Rufford thread, don't know if you want to merge the two threads or leave them separate.
I was well pleased with the Better Beamer today and by the looks of your shots the diffuser worked a treat as well
