| | | Re: WAB dragonfly meeting Geez Gill, that camera of yours turns out some stunning images. The White-legged and the Lesser Marsh are awesome. I'm feeling very inadequate looking at the Dragonfly and Damselfly images that I took yesterday.
I haven't had chance to respond earlier as I have been busy editing loads of photos plus I have to compile a list of Moths I trapped for Oscar and some of them are proving difficult to ID.
I have to agree with what has been said so far. Fabulous venue complimented an excellent weekend for our WAB meet.
I hope this is made into an Annual event as it is an ideal venue for a good proportion of WAB members, as it is situated right in the heart of Britain. The other plus points are the beauty of the place, the fact that it is unspoilt and also the fact that it is very private.
I must pay tribute, as others have done already, to those that organised the meet together with those that run the site and allowed us access. Thank you guys, you are stars.
It was great to meet some old friends and some new ones to and there was an excellent turn out. If I have one regret it is the fact that there were quite a few I didn't get to speak to.
I think everyone more than enjoyed themselves, and who wouldn't with such excellent weather on Saturday. It's a pity the forecast for Saturday night was wrong as it went cold, and in the end rained.
I went to bed in my car at 2am and was woken up at 4am with the sound of heavy rain pattering on my car roof and I was out like a shot to close off the trap and take it under shelter, and Steve joined me as I got there to help me pick everything up.
The catch wasn't as high as expected but even so there were some nice moths caught. I have managed to edit all my photos so far but there are a few I haven't put names to yet but below are a selection of a few I managed to trap.
Gold Spot
Swallow Prominent
Poplar Kitten
Iron Prominent
Coxcomb Prominent
Trachycera advenella
Lesser Treble-bar
Chinese Character (this is one I took last year. I have used it to show what it looks like. Unfortunately the one I trapped escaped in the rain.
I hope you like them.
Oh well!! back to trying to ID those other moths.

Steve. | Just for Steve.
Steve left us for a short while about to take his son home. Around 6pm a Buzzard gave us an excellent fly by and I managed to get a few shots, even allowing the fact that i forgot to take my camera off manual.
The sun wasn't kind, as you can see, as it was shining directly at the bird so I was surprised that they came out at all.
Sorry Steve. |

Mark H | It certainly was. I'd rate that the best yet that I've been to. There were so many there, I'm just sorry we couldn't talk to everyone. I've already forgotten most of the names! That's typical for me though, mind like a sieve. I think I remember my wifes name... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
