| | | Re: Bad horse owners I did wonder if they were owned by gypsies they have horses like this that they breed then take to the horse fares across the country they fetch from £500 to a couple of grand.
The hoof looks like it has been like this a long time and it will take a long time and a corrective veterinary farrier to fix, the feet may not have not been cut properly for them to split like this.
Lets hope now they know the problem something will be done. |

| | | Re: Bad horse owners Horse welfare people emailed to say the RSPCA were going to look at the horse again, the first time they didn't think it was bad enough to do anything, can't think they looked very closely.
I don't think I can get there again until Friday, weather permitting I will try to take more close up photos of the hooves and see if I can feel it for heat, I don't think it will let me but i will have a go.
I don't know who owns these horses but it is probably the Travelers , there are a large number of these Cob and Fell type horse in this area which are used for breeding, Most are looked after well enough and I know some of the stallions are worth a huge amount of money, so it wouldn't make sense to not care for them.
This field is being sold for development so is not set up for livestock, there is loose barbed wire everywhere, steep drops on the edge of the field, ragwort everywhere, boggy bits in the woods, sometimes no water or its difficult to get to.
Anyway it would have been nice if the RSPCA had actually spoken to me. end of moan for this evening.

| | | Re: Bad horse owners Just be careful and if the horse is in pain it could kick out so maybe best let they rspca deal with it from now on that's if they think they are better to deal with this than a vets opinion but now you have "photographic evidence" they cannot ignore it so I think they will consult a vet. |

| | | Re: Bad horse owners I agree with Kayleigh - don't try to handle it. Let's hope that the RSPCA get their finger out and do something - but I won't hold my breath - I hope they prove me wrong. |

How are they likely to react if they see you showing concern, put 2 and 2 together and suspect you are the person who reported the incident ?
I'm sure these people have all the latest gadgets and it may even be possible that one or two of the community may even be following this thread and relay this electronic conversation back to the horse owners.
You've done a great job so far, but don't take unnecessary risks.

Littlesparrow - I echo Fairplay - do be careful - you have done a lot to make people aware - I would just observe without being caught with a video camera. There is only so much you can do - and you have done a lot? |

| | | Re: Bad horse owners This leads to the strange split, don't contribute to the RSPCA 'cos they don't do much or contribute with the hope that if they have more money so they will do more. They do seem to get quite a bit of bad press lately, but is it lack of funding or rather strange priorities.
