On a walk in the snow this afternoon I came across some footprints that seem odd to me. I only have the vaguest knowledge of footprints (I can tell deer from dog from rabbit, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes

).
They were quite large (as big as most domestic dogs tracks I see), a good 10cm from tip to back, and quite rounded with prominent claw indents (don't show up that well in the photos), 4-7ish cm width (as wide as the heels or our wellies at least).
(apologies for the odd angle, I only had a telephoto lens with me)
If I saw that shape of tracks I would normally think of badger, but the spacing suggested it was running very fast (there were sets of 3 or four prints (as pictured) with a good 2 foot gap between them).
I did think dog, but it seems unlikely because there were no human tracks for a good 50-100m in any direction and the tracks didn't double back at all (if it was a pet dog it was running a long way from it's owners).
Probably something obvious I'm missing, but I can't think of anything in my limited knowledge that fits

.
Thanks for your time
EDIT-
Might have just solved this for myself, we also saw hares running about and I've just looked up some images and the spacing of the tracks matches exactly, just didn't occur to me at the time for some reason

probably the size, it was quite a bit bigger than I would have imagined for hare?
