| | | Re: Hedgehog Suicide pact? Fairplay why do you feel the need to "quote" me and then shout?
I care very much about this and came here for help not snarky comments and abuse. I have contacted the local rag and am harrassing the police too. All I come up against is brick walls and I dont appreciate your attitude.
For your information:
I contacted via the council andthe man who attended (in a council van) introduced himself as the wildlife warden. I havent checked his qualifications so I have taken his word for it that he is the wildlife warden!
The local rag was not interested. The young girl i spoke to basically laughed when I explained the story and told me there was no way they would be running a story about run over hedgehogs.
The college, I was requested by the wildlife warden to leave it in his hands. However as I am an adult student there I have had a chat with one of the facillities guys who has promised to speak to his boss to ensure the recording is not erased. He doesnt think it would show the area in question but perhaps it would show someone walking past.
Finally as for the police, I am telephoning every other day, I do have an CR number. I'm not exactly sure what you expect me to do extra! As a lone parent and full time student I am not willing to expose my children to sitting in a horrible police station while we wait for someone to notice me.
So please fairplay try to remember I care deeply about this situation and I do not need your attitude. I cam here with questions and when it became apparent that this wasnt a natural phenomenon I have acted accordingly to the best of my ability. As a new member here if this is the attitude I have to contend with I wont be staying very long either. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Suicide pact? Bluecow, please don’t take fairplay’s comments personally. It wouldn’t have been his intention to offend you in anyway. We’re all passionate about our wildlife and we all express our feelings about wildlife crime in different ways. It’s sometimes difficult to convey feelings/advice on a forum via the written word, as opposed to expressing them face to face.
Everybody that’s contributed to your thread will have been incensed about those poor hedgehogs’ fate.
Thank you for taking the time out to keep us in the loop with the extra information you’ve just provided. It all helps to give us a bigger picture of what’s being done and is much appreciated.
What I find really sad is that just because our humble hedgehog is small and inconspicuous, it doesn’t appear to warrant the concerns and interests it justifiably deserves for a serious wildlife crime. I bet if hedgehogs were the size of, say, a badger, the story would have undoubtedly made it onto tv news.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings, I do hope you decide to stick around and become a permanent member of WAB's community . |

I would echo all that Hedgehoggy has said and thank you for all you've done so far, and just for caring enough really. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Suicide pact? And to think (yesterday) I had a PM from another very concerned person contributing to this thread, thanking me for treating this disturbing case seriously and basically trying to keep the momentum going !
Quote: "Snarky comments" "Abuse" "Attitude" ... wow.
I went back to my last post to try to work out what it is that made you react like this and all I can think of is my use of upper case letters to emphasise the importance of getting the press involved, instead of underlining it.
The problem stems from the fact you come to us for help, but fail to keep us updated. I queried your reference to a wildlife warden as the term seemed pretty vague and feared somebody my be trying to pull the wool over your eyes, but the good news is he works for the council and he is taking this seriously.
I should add that the name you chose to be the title of this thread and the details that you gave us subsequently did raise my eyebrows (your wondering if they "committed suicide" !) which is why I have been so enthusiastic in trying to guide you on the best way forward.
As to the silly lady at the local rag - she should be sacked and I would have insisted on seeing the editor.
Neil.
EDIT: Just noticed Hedgehoggy and Crumble have already responded.

| | | Re: Hedgehog Suicide pact? When I reported a tortured and mutilated cat to the police many years ago, I mentioned that the culprit's tastes may not be satisfied with animals but eventually progress to children. This seemed to work and an investigation was made. Unfortunately the culprit was never found.

Jim | You would think the mysterious circumstances and the unknown intention of the person or persons involved would be sufficient for the police (and press) to be more involved, but having raised these possible ramifications Jim, this surely must make the police get their act together.
Hope you can pick up on this Blue cow - it worked for Jim.

I think you need to take the attitude that 'I have young children and we need to know who these people are in our society that have these sort of deviant appetites.'

I don't think anybody mentioned the hedgehogs were found covered in clay and baked in a fire (Sorry)
That's how the travelling fraternity are supposed to cook them for those that don't know.
Neil.
EDIT: Before my editing time runs out, I've just had another thought - hedgehogs and robins are supposed to be gardeners best friends ... so why not find out if there is a gardening club or allotment holders association in the area and inform them of what is going on ? With luck, they may take up the cudgel.
