The most hated animal in Britain without a doubt.Even David Attenborough detests them, which i find surprising.
They are probably, next to us,the most succesful and adaptable animal on Earth.
They can live in very varied habitats, their diet is almost universal, and they can swim and climb expertly.
They can be very aggressive and yet make the perfect pet.(domesticated).
We are a bit hypocritical as a species aren't we,when we spend millions in killing them and House Mice and yet sell them as childrens pets?
I have just watched one sparring with a Grey Squirrel during the Garden Birdwatch, the Rat came off the best.
The Rat will dominate a feeding station against most garden animals though the Magpie doesn't frighten easily and i have seen young Rats attcked my one or more Magpies.
Being as my garden backs onto parkland and woodland incursions of a Rat every now and then are things we have to put up with.
Does anyone else share my admiration and a little sympathy for the most hated species of our fauna?
