Rabbits and Grey squirrels

Hi, I and a friend was out with the ferrets the other day,we was walking across an open field on top of a hill in the field was a small group of trees no taller than 7 ft high,we walked towards the trees and stopped as we seen movement,couldnt work out what it was as we was to far away, we got closer and i could see it was a squirrel it jumped into the trees from the ground,watching every move we made,As we got close about 4/5 ft away it jumped out the small tree straight down in to a rabbit hole,Iv never seen this happen before and wondered if anyone has?? Would the rabbits be happy for this little chap sit down there with them,we didnt want to send the ferret down the set with a squirrel in it so walked on to find some were eles,could this be a new friendship of rabbits and look out squirrels?

hi welcome to WAB More than likely it had no where else to go if the trees were that small. Nearest place of safety for him he might have even seen or could smell the ferrets you had with you. Rabbits and squirrels don’t mix as a rule.

hi thank you for the welcome and repley,It did seam rather odd it going down the rabbit hole,but your right it didnt have many places to go other than across the field or hes choice of the underground..i see and learn more about wild life every day,including our friendly Black Cap that vists our garden daily.
