Having just seen GriGGerz great water vole clip, I would really like to know something that has bothered me for years.
Is Ratty a rat, or a water vole? I know he is referred to as a water rat, but in his pictures he looks much more like a vole... and he is the same size as the Mole.  |

He is a water vole. Some people call water voles water rats.  |

Yes, we could do with the public forgetting the whole name of "water rat" because although water voles are not rats, they sometimes get mistakenly poisoned by people who think they are. |

Actually I once saw a really dreadful piece in the Times by a journalist who thought water voles were rats. I tried to leave a comment to complain but loads of people had got in before me. |
