| | | Could it be a bat? Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and wondered if anyone could answer a question for me please?
We have a bat box on the side of the house and in the last two months we've noticed droppings directly underneath it. I would be delighted if it was a bat although the droppings are black and white so looks more like bird than bat. Having said that, I wouldn't have thought there would be a bird small enough to get in a bat box - would there?
Will also put in bird section.
Thanks |

At this time of year the user of your bat box is likely to be a Blue Tit. It will enter it at dusk and leave at dawn and use it as a night roost.
Bats are in hibernation now and bat boxes generally don't provide the stable low temperatures and high humidity they need.
Other small birds e.g. Wren, Wagtail, Great Tit use bird boxes for night roosting in the winter months too.
I thinks its good that these boxes are used in this way throughout the year. |

| | | Re: Could it be a bat? agree with woodman the colour of droppings sound bird like and it mat not be only one bird has many as 30+ wrens can sleep in a bat/bird box over night for warmth

| | | Re: Could it be a bat? Thanks everyone - didn't think bat poo had white in it. Oh well at least bat box is proving useful for a bird. The more wildlife in the garden the better | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
