| | | They could at least wipe their feet! We've adopted a stray cat who can't come inside for various reasons. We've recently bodged a little porch on the back door so he has somewhere to sleep. I've put a cat flap hole in the porch door and a temporary cat flat made of two layers of pond liner so he gets used to pushing something to get through the hole.
We put a bowl of hedgehog food outside the porch, a bowl of the cat's food inside the porch. We were surprised to find two hedgehogs in the porch. We are getting several in each night even when they still have food outside. It will be interesting to see if they can tackle a proper cat flap when they come back in the spring. Hopefully not, look at the mess on the floor |

| | | Re: They could at least wipe their feet! That is so great... I've never seen a hedgehog in the wild, only in an animal sanctuary.
Love the 'eewwww' expression on the cat's face, too. |

| | | Re: They could at least wipe their feet! We're lucky to have loads of hedgehogs here. We're also quite close to a RSPCA wildlife centre where we take any little ones too small to hibernate and they usually return the favour by giving us back twice as many to release in the spring.
The cat is very patient and luckily doesn't touch the birds. We saw a blackbird trapped in the porch the other morning and expected the worse but the cat was sitting outside looking nervous. |

| | | Re: They could at least wipe their feet! Priceless! Thanks for sharing your photo and story. I've read of hedgehogs entering people's houses via cat flaps when they can smell the food inside - alas my backdoor isn't on ground level so my cat flap is positioned way too high for them to even try this! |

| | | Re: They could at least wipe their feet! How lovely. I get hedgehogs coming to my back door where I put out cat treats and food. I now believe they'd come right in if I left the door open! |

| | | Re: They could at least wipe their feet! What a great picture and story - that's one contented looking cat! Clearly so well fed he doesnt mind the hogs sharing his food at all... Wish I had some hedgehogs - got all excited a while back thinking I had one that had created a spot to hibernate at the bottom of the garden, but it turned out to be a false alarm... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
