| | | What should foxes be fed Hello everyone I need a little advice,
My neighbour feeds foxes every night. I have never really paid much attention until my dog took me over to the pile yesterday. There were umpteen packets of sweet biscuits, half a dozen kitkats, crisps and sandwiches in the pile. Tonight I went to see and the same; another couple of packets of biscuits, sandwiches (not left overs, sandwiches made for the foxes) crisps and more chocolate.
I'm concerned as obviously this is unhealthy for the foxes (both content and amount), but can this stuff actually be harmful to them?
Many thanks. |

| | | Re: What should foxes be fed I dont suppose it does them that much harm so long as its not the only food source - and the fact that theres loads of left overs suggests they arent eating it anyway. (one point though is chocoalate can be very bad for dogs - so i doubt its good for vulpids either)
However it would be better to feed them dog food (the meaty kind) , live meal worms, etc

Foxes eat whole animals, fur, bone, everything, and you will see traces of this in what comes out at the other end.
Chocolate is highly toxic and can be fatal, so that should be stopped immediately. Sweet stuff can cause tooth decay, and as you know foxes don't have vets or dentists in the wild.
Foxes like fruit, such as apples, blackberries, cat biscuits, dog biscuits, which should be moistened with a little water, and if fed dog or cat biscuits, a bowl of water should always be provided.
Contacting a Wildlife Centre would be a good idea as they could give you a comprehensive list of what foxes should be fed. |

| | | Re: What should foxes be fed That sort of food is as unhealthy for foxes as it is for humans - so yes, have words with whoever's doing it and suggest that, if they must, they leave some dog biscuits.
I'm not really in favour of feeding foxes (unless you can trap a few grey squirrels for them ) but if people are going to do it then give them something fairly innocuous like dog biscuits. Quote:
