Think the one mammal that we could all help in our own way would be the hedgehog. That's why I'm taking on the role of local volunteer co-ordinator for hedgehogs through the Hedgehog Street scheme. I'm looking forward to getting started too.

The report suggests that they are declining primerily due to habitat fragmentation, hedgerow loss and pesticides in rural locations. I think in urban/sub-urban they are more stable and traffic, badgers, habitat loss are larger problems. |

| | | Re: British Mammals 2011 Have a look at this link Hedgehog Street Hedgehog Street
It's dead easy and makes sense. You've got a pack, which have cards, invites and info. It's a way to help your neighbour make small changes in their gardens that ultimately creates habitats that are linked together for hedgehogs.
Some neighbours will probably be resistant but I'm prepared to do a bit of leg-work and I can be quite persuasive.
Thinking of a hedgehog meeting once a quarter too!
