Milton Keynes has an abundance of wildlife.
Look closely enough and you will see rabbits (specially near roundabouts), foxes, rats (eww), and if you are lucky a badger or two.
On the island of one of our lakes are some goats which are taken over in a small boat where they spend three months in order to control weeds and brambles .
North Willen Lake is one of the best sites for birds in the region. The island’s inaccessibility makes it an ideal sanctuary for ground nesting birds such as ducks, greylag geese, little egret and herons. However, bramble thrives on the island and threatens to smother many of the places where these birds love to nest.
The goats are regurlarly checked by volunteers from the Parks Trust which is a local charity which looks after the parks, woodland and local wildlife habitats.
