| | | Going batting. Got my detector and a very woody part of the Isle of Wight to investigate. I'll let you know how many species of bat in the morning.

| | | Re: Going batting. I hope its as good as it was in Cumbria tonight. Mild and calm and 12.1 degrees C at 2000. The property I was surveying had a brilliant show of common and soprano pips. Plenty of social calling too. Just one brown long-eared (and a Barn Owl).
Pound to a penny you end with more species though! |

| | | Re: Going batting. Well 2 species possibly 3. I'm still getting my head around the differences. Definitely Pipistrelle and the others were at 60kHz. The surprise was thinking there was a cat infront of us and when I shined the light from my detector it was a whacking great badger.
Looking for red squirrels tomorrow.People around here have feeders out in their gardens for them.

| | | Re: Going batting. Could the 60kHz be sop pips in a closed environment e.g. woodland?
Perhaps you ID'd the two pips plus another?
Brown long-eared in woodland can reach max frequency of 60kHz as they echolocate at a wide range.
See.... Brown Long-Eared Bat
So many questions so late at night!
