However, you've explained yourself and those with any interest in the matter will surely pay £3 to you via PayPal to read what you print about the story and be entertained by the anomalous humour of Dr Devo!
I did some digging today and cannot find what I thought I remembered seeing somewhere about red bats in an C19th book. Nightshade raises a valid point about vernacular etymology ( a subject you are probably well up in) and this may have some bearing on your quest.
I look forward to the details of your publication in Feb.
