| | | Large unidentified poo Hi
Found a large round poo on some long grass in an undisturbed area on the edge of leeds today. It is about the size of a cricket ball and has a really chemically type of smell. We cut it in half and it was quite firm on the outside, but soft in the middle. It had lots of seeds in it.
Does anyone have any idea what could have made it? Are there any experts out there that could help. See pics below.
Thanks
Chris |

| | | Re: Large unidentified poo The high degree of sphericity of this sample reminds me of something that has been rolled by a scarab .... do you have huge dung beetles there in Yorkshire nowadays? |

| | | Re: Large unidentified poo Thanks.
Funny you should say that as the site is very close to a large sewage treatment works. It was found at least 50m from the nearest road though...
Would it be feasable for a beetle to roll a ball of that size? It is quite dense and therfore heavy |

| | | Re: Large unidentified poo It is indeed a strange thing. The size, conformation and density might lead me to think it has not been made by fauna.
Is there a possibility that this sphere has been formed by mud/slurry/faecal matter on a vibrating flat surface such as a tractor mounted mower deck or similar? |

| | | Re: Large unidentified poo Ha, ha! No not a picture outside, a picture of the outside. It's just that I would be more familiar with that view. For the above reason. Just a thought.

Yes it does help when trying to ask for IDs is to include as much info as possible on the environment the item was found in and in-situ.
