| | | Badger Identification We were coming home at about 11-12pm one night when a badger ran out in front of the headlights, startled and blinded he eventually scrambled into the ditch.
I set of the next day to see if I could find a sett, there is a field of barley with an unusual ly steep hillside, although it was overgrown and I could see no entrances or paths which might suggest badger activity, it did look like the kind of place there would be a sett.
So I mixed some soil with water to make a sludge in order to see footprints. Then laid down some walnut halves.
The result was that the walnuts were gone, there were some tiny claw marks and what looked like some cant of purpleish colour of scat.
Does this sound like badger, if not what kind of mammal could it be P8284698 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! P8294710 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

| | Re: Badger Identification badgers use latrines to defecate in, away from there main living area .the pit/latrine usually look like a scrape or shallow hollow in the earth . the dung usually looks greenish and smooth to runny depending on there diet. a badger may have taken the nuts. but it doesn't sound like badger scatt ? could poss be hedge hog ? badgers do have quite a large foraging area , so the sette may not be near where you last saw him. or he could be a young or old wandering boar that has been displaced from a sett. hope that helps a little. |
