| | | Re: Flatworm parasite infecting Otters Yes, there is a general problem with helminthic parasites that they can affect hosts *other* than their primary/secondary ones. It is a common feature of parasitic worms that they switch between two hosts but they can usually survive in many other hosts. Parasites, of course, do not kill their primary hosts - doing that would be suicide. However, if they mature in the "wrong" host then mutual death is likely.
Clearly, here, the big problem is with parasites of fish (imported from far afield) seeking sustenance from otters. Could be bad .....
