cheale meats and Jim Paice MP

Hi all, (mods maybe this is in the wrong place?)

Has anybody seen the news of the abattoir in Brentwood essex, Cheale Meats?

For those who missed it, cctv footage shows workers punching, hitting with bats and stubbing cigarettes out on pigs before they get slaughtered. See this link for the story with pics

The case against them has had to be dropped as the cctv footage was gathered by trespassers and so they face no punishment for acts of animal cruelty.

Apparently, the 'ANIMAL WELFARE' and! hunting and shooting minister Jim Paice (Conservative) has changed some legislation and the result has been several such cases being dropped, despite RSPCA involvement.

On further reading, the minister Jim Paice has also reduced vetenairy requirements for livestock, ruled in favor of Pheasant cages and is fighting against a ban on keeping wild animals in circuses!

I wondered if anyone else was aware and if you feel, like I do that Jim Paice has a lot of answering to do. I will personally be contacting him with my thoughts on this and other matters.

I would suggest anyone who is concerned with these issues to voice your concerns and lobby your mp's. These matters need to be addressed before we regress to fox hunting with dogs again under the con dems rule.

I am disgusted that a government can seemingly be willing to regress when such progress has been made in Animal welfare. For the Animal Welfare minister to favour wild animals being used in circuses speaks volumes.

im suprised nobody has commented on this story, given the level of cruelty shown?

If anyone is any good at investigating such things, I wouldnt mind knowing who Cheale Meats supply with their pork products.

Hi Meinchewster, sadly this sadistic, and inexplicable, behaviour has been going on for yonks. Many moons ago when I was an active animal rights activist/campaigner, we were frequently passed such footage. IIRC, only one individual was ever prosecuted for blatant animal cruelty in an abbatoir, many others were sacked by their employers after the footage came to their attention.

This is one of the reasons why I’ve been a veggie for 28 years.

I have only just seen this. it's disgusting. Have you tried contacting Hillside rescue in Norfolk (I believe)? it was this rescue centre who implemented the Bernard Matthews turkey-bashing crimes.
They have a good defence lawyer.

..I've only just seen this thread Meinchewster, I cannot watch the video because I cannot cope with such things.. it would literally make me ill, and then what use would I be, but I totally agree with all you have said..I will be asking my MP a few questions, and give him my views..My MP's PA told me last week (on a different matter) that he needs big numbers of complaints on an issue, in order to get heard about it..either letters or emails, or petitions. And the law is an ass anyway, concerning many things, so what hope do we have in general, never mind specific issues..Posie..
