VC. | Otters can be very difficult to see, I know a chap who all he does as a job is survey for otters and water vole mostly in Wales and he maybe sees one or two a year!! You might get lucky though as numbers are on the up and up!! Might be worth contacting your local wildlifeTrust if you don't get any luck here |

| | | Re: Otters in South Devon Well i have seen one otter a few years back in wales. He was lying on his back in broad daylight in a shallow stream tossing a pebble. Now that was incredibly magical. |

| | | Re: Otters in South Devon If you're prepared to head into North Devon you might get lucky on the Tarka Trail just to the North of Great Torrington. I've seen a pair of otters twice in about 15 visits over the last 6 months.
Good luck in spotting them wherever you go. |

VC. | Hi VC,
Yes, wild Otters are very dificult to find and even harder to get photos of. In over 40 years of wildlife photography I have yet to see one. I once spent a week on Islay just to get photos of wild Otters. Never saw one all week. Even with a local ranger as a guide. But...they are certainly getting more common in Devon with reports of them all over the county. I have recently seen Otter spraint very near Newton Abbot where I live. But, if you just want some Otter photos or just to be able to see them close up, why not visit the Buckfastleigh Otter Sanctuary.
Best of luck
